Position Summary
At RIX Industries, our Manufacturing Engineering Internship offers hands-on exposure to real-world production challenges in a dynamic design/build/test environment. This role is geared toward students pursuing degrees in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related disciplines who are eager to gain experience in high-performance manufacturing systems, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration. This Intern position will support RIX's Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Services, and R&D teams, with a particular focus on manufacturing processes, production planning support, and cost-effective design implementation in mind. This is a unique opportunity to gain insight into the production floor execution process.
Responsibilities
+ Supporting design-for-manufacture and assembly efforts.
+ Creating and updating manufacturing process documentation, BOMs, routing, and work instructions.
+ Performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions for production issues.
+ Collaborating with the shop floor to troubleshoot manufacturing and test processes.
+ Participating in lean manufacturing and process improvement initiatives.
+ Assisting in the selection of tooling, fixtures, and materials to optimize production efficiency.
+ Supporting manufacturing cost analysis and Design to Unit Production Cost initiatives.
+ Assisting in the transition of new products from engineering development to full-scale production.
ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES:
Interns may be assigned a special project with higher levels of responsibility and autonomy, offering an in-depth look at solving complex manufacturing engineering challenges and implementing solutions that make a real impact.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
+ Enrolled in a Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related degree program.
+ Strong proficiency with 2D/3D CAD software.
+ Experience with Microsoft Excel, especially pivot tables and data analysis.
+ Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
+ Ability to work onsite in Sparks, NV with possible traveling to Benicia, CA.
+ Interest in hands-on, cross-functional engineering work.
+ Detail-oriented, self-starting, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
+ Citizenship: U.S. Citizen or qualified U.S. Person in accordance with ALU 22CFR 120.15.
Physical Requirements
+ This position is regularly exposed to the following conditions:
+ Manufacturing, warehouse and office environment.
+ While working near moving equipment, mechanical parts and lift trucks; must have the ability to follow safe operating procedures.
+ May be exposed to loud noise, fumes and/or toxic chemicals.
+ Must have the following physical abilities:
+ Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, reach, and lift.
+ Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
+ Ability to sit or stand for extended periods at a desk or table as well as machine tools or printers.
