This position serves our partners at Minnesota’s largest state agency, the Department of Human Services (DHS). The MNIT DHS team supports complex and varied technical needs, including systems that provide health care coverage, deliver child protection and welfare services, and provide support for Minnesotans with special needs including mental illness, chemical dependencies, and physical or developmental disabilities.
We are seeking a skilled manual IT Quality Analyst/Tester to join our team and contribute to ensuring the highest standards of software quality. You will provide professional knowledge and skills in information systems software testing, quality assurance, and quality control of application software and systems. This position promotes appropriate testing methodologies, striving to identify and manage defects in the software systems.
This position involves performing complex testing and quality assurance duties. You will also contribute to fostering a culture of quality by leveraging and advancing appropriate testing methodologies. We’re looking for a detail-oriented professional with a strong technical foundation, a commitment to continuous improvement, and a collaborative approach to delivering high-quality software systems.
This position requires an employee to be onsite in St. Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location.

Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a minimum of three (3) years of experience in software quality assurance, testing methodologies, and quality control practices.
Experience must include:
+ Demonstrated testing experience with financial operations applications (e.g., payroll, accounting, budgeting, or financial reporting systems), with a demonstrated understanding of compliance, accuracy, and QA processes in financial workflows.
+ Proficiency in designing and executing SQL queries for data validation and defect identification, including working with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle).
+ Participation in formal review of business/functional requirements and application design.
+ Creating business relevant artifacts: test cases, test scripts, and test data.
+ Executing manual functional, regression, smoke, and system testing tasks
+ Analyzing and reporting defects, test results, and overall test status and communicating progress of all test activities against the test plan/release schedule.
+ Strong communication skills, including active listening and empathy, with the ability to convey technical details clearly to diverse audiences.
A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Technology or a related field.
+ Prior work experience within agile development environments, with proficiency in writing and executing test cases based on user stories, acceptance criteria, and sprint goals.
+ Experience working with web-based forms, web-based content, and interactive solutions, as well as performing testing on web-based applications and database testing.
+ Ability to organize, prioritize multiple deadlines, and work independently to define problems as they arise, and to recommend alternative solutions.
