Job Summary and Qualifications
The Performance Improvement Division Vice President (PI Division VP) collaborates with the PI Group VP, Division President and CFO to define and execute strategies for the HCA Performance Improvement Division Support Model. The PI Division VP will establish and lead dedicated management engineering, performance improvement, and process improvement resources that will provide specialized support in key focus areas such as surgical operations, emergency room operations, routine labor management, and other operational/financial improvements. The PI Division Support Model will provide services to facilities and divisions for process improvement, expense reduction, and labor management. This position will provide leadership to the PI Division Team to ensure the strategies are executed at the local level. The PI Division VP will work directly with division leaders to develop division strategies and goals that are in alignment with company goals. The PI Division VP will develop plans and drive execution and results at the division level. This position is held accountable for defined performance improvement goals including labor management, ER throughput, OR efficiency and bed management. This position leads the execution of performance improvement and labor management standards and processes; and ensures the integrity of standards is maintained within the division.
Job Duties:
+ Provides direct leadership, oversight and accountability for the operational effectiveness of the PI organization at the division and facility level.
+ In conjunction with the PI Group VP, Division President and CFO, develops the annual PI strategic plan for the division.
+ In conjunction with central support team, develops measurement tools to track and trend operational efficiency and financial performance.
+ Executes the strategic plan of the PI organization at the division and facility level.
+ Prioritizes performance improvement and labor management work based upon the needs of the business and in accordance and alignment with division strategy.
+ Provides division leadership for the company’s ER throughput, OR efficiency and inpatient bed management throughput.
+ Works collaboratively with division and facility leaders to develop process improvement and labor management standards and controls followed by execution and sustainability of standards
+ Manages PI division team to establish staffing/productivity management support, including specific productivity goals to be accomplished, and directs the activities of the Division aimed toward meeting those strategic goals.
+ Directs and/or Leads cross-functional process design teams to develop and implement solutions to complex operational problems.
+ Provides direction and manages division team to ensure standardization and consistency across division; Communicating routinely with PI Group VP to ensure alignment across organization.
+ Manages direct reports in a remote and matrix environment.
+ Effectively negotiates and balances the needs of division and facility operations.
+ Ensures that variations to labor standards are analyzed and escalated to leadership.
+ Identifies the learning and development needs for the division PI team and works with PI central education team to prioritize education development.
+ Drives business decisions through the use of analytics.
+ Develops a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree required.
+ 10+ years healthcare experience required preferably with HCA.
+ Performance improvement and/or Management Engineering related experience required.
+ Experience and skills in consulting, hospital operations management, health care financial management, strategic planning and relationship management required.
+ Executive level interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a matrix environment.
+ Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
+ Division based, travel required, % based on division geographic locations.
