    Summary/Objective:

    Under broad supervision, the academics teacher will provide quality individualized instruction to students transitioning from high school to employment and participating in pre-employment and/or vocational rehabilitation services. Provides counseling and vocational services base on student’s needs and employment goals; evaluates students’ progress in attaining goal and objectives; attends IEP, faculty and educational meetings. The teacher will be responsible for providing guidance and support in pre-employment and vocational services.

    Essential Functions:

    Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

     

    1. Provide individualized academic instruction to GVRA clients.

    2. Prepare RWS student Individualized plan for Employment (IPE) in consultation with student, teacher, and team members.

    3. Design instruction/lesson plans and record progress of students.

    4. Manage classroom organization.

    5. Assessment of student education needs and potential to benefit from assistive technology.

    6. Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of GVRA clients.

    7. Utilize various instructional methods, including tactile, visual and auditory learning preferences.

    8. Provide individualized assessment of employment development for the purpose of student goal planning, as well as rehabilitation team planning.

    9. Work/tutor students individually and in small groups.

    10. Provide vocational services reports; as requested.

    11. Incorporate specific and measurable outcomes to monitor student performance.

    12. Maintain student records for the purpose of program, GVRA and state education requirements regarding classroom enrollment, progress and discharge disposition.

    13. Adherence to the program policies of the agency.

    14. Attendance in training programs, as appropriate; for the purpose of remaining current with current special education trends in instruction, materials and practices that can be implemented to enhance the daily instruction of GVRA clients.

    15. Develops and maintains referral sources

    16. Conducts interviews with VR participants (potentially eligible students, applicants and clients)

    17. Provides pre-employment assessments of job skills to determine individual needs.

    18. Develops and delivers workplace readiness training to individuals or groups of potentially eligible students

    19. Provides instruction and/or guidance to deliver services, such as self-advocacy, job exploration, and counseling on Post-Secondary opportunities.

    20. Develops or coordinates the development of work-based learning opportunities in the community.

    21. Under direct supervision, reviews and interprets education, vocation, psychological and medical information

    22. Travel within caseload assignment area to meet with individuals, providers, partners and other outreach

    23. Under direct supervision, assist in determining eligibility, identifying order of selection, conducting a comprehensive needs assessment and developing an individualized plan for employment, authorizing services

    24. Under direct supervision, counsels and guides participants throughout the rehabilitation process, including establishing employment goal, facilitating job search efforts, maintaining contact with clients, and moving the case to closure

    25. Monitors client movement and ensures timely provision of services

    26. Documents accurately and timely in AWARE (client information system)

    27. Observes rules of confidentiality as stated by departmental guidelines in the dissemination and interpretation of test results and other case file information.

    28. Provides information to educate the public, other agencies, vendors and potential customers about rehabilitation services.

    Preferred Education and Experience:

    Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the required education and experience, possess one or more of the following:

    1. Master’s Degree in Special Education

    2. Job related experience in transition from school to work with students with disabilities.

    3. Completion of an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university AND Eligible to obtain at least a Georgia teacher's associate professional fourth-year certificate OR A current, appropriate Georgia teacher's fourth-year certificate in area of assignment.

    Supervisory Responsibility:

    None required for this position.

    Work Environment:

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.

    Physical Demands:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

    Working Conditions:

    Incumbents working in this job perform duties in an office setting. This is a 40-hour workweek requirement. The position may involve managing a high-volume workload and demands a high level of accuracy while working with deadlines. Regular attendance is an important part of being successful in this position. Reasonable accommodations can be made available to qualified individuals upon request.

    Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

    This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position occasionally requires long hours and weekend work.

    Travel:

    Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
