Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Production Engineering Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Assembly Production Engineer.
The primary responsibility of this role is to be the “voice of the customer” throughout the life cycle of the part—preproduction, mass production and post-production.
Reporting to the Production Engineering Manager, the person in this role will support the Production Engineering department's objective to provide line support, cost reduction and OR improvement activities on the production lines.
What you’ll be doing
+ Manage manufacturing support operations and functions related to safety, quality improvements, scrap/repair reductions, tooling/kaizen implementation, cost reduction and meantime between failures (MTBF) improvement
+ Provide capital and product support for assigned line including leading change point management coordination of internal and external resources for the implementation of projects, new equipment installation, model changes, refurbishment of existing equipment, new tooling technologies and other kaizens.
+ This will require excellent organizational and communication skills (both verbal and written) to coordinate with Production, Quality, Safety, Maintenance, Facilities, NA PE and Outside Vendors in order to ensure all tasks are completed on time per schedule.
+ Perform problem solving utilizing Toyota Business Practice (TBP) to troubleshoot process issues, identify root cause and recommend countermeasures via the creation of a strategy document in order to recommend and implement effective countermeasures to resolve issues, implement kaizens to improve efficiency, reduce costs and effectively meet KPI targets for assigned line
+ Work in cross-functional groups to ensure production processes are capable of producing quality products, within takt time, while meeting OA targets utilizing thorough root cause analysis, reporting and cooperation with support groups to implement countermeasures; ensuring successful planning and implementation of production, precision measurement, and testing equipment for new projects; to understand daily production problems in processes or part quality, quickly perform root cause analysis, and implement countermeasures
What you bring
+ Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Engineering (ME, EE, IE) degree or an Associate’s Degree with 3 or more years of Engineering experience is acceptable
+ 2 or more years of electrical troubleshooting experience including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)s
+ 3 or more years of mechanical troubleshooting experience
+ 2 or more years of experience applying an understanding of manufacturing processes, including how to troubleshoot equipment issues and identify countermeasures based on root cause of defects
+ 2 or more years of project management experience with the capability to develop, lead, prioritize work, meet milestones, and report out status of project
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
+ Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint
Added bonus if you have
+ Automotive manufacturing experience in an Engineering department
+ Machining troubleshooting experience including Computer Numerical Controls (CNCs)
+ Experience troubleshooting robotic systems
+ Experience tightening equipment, assembly systems and/or leak testing
+ TBP (passed panel) or similar problem-solving certification
+ Strong interpersonal skills both verbal and written to explain ideas to others and to obtain team agreement through thought sharing
+ Experience working with collaborative teams
+ Experience organizing and prioritizing multiple customer concerns
+ Experience self-teaching new technology, processes and procedures
+ Basic understanding of Toyota Way and the relationship between Toyota Way values and the core elements of Toyota Management System (Toyota Production System (TPS), Toyota Business Practices (TBP), Hoshin Kanri “direction management,” On-the-Job Development (OJD), Muda “waste,” Jidoka “built-in quality,” JIT “just-in-time”)
