Description We are looking for an experienced Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) to lead the accounting and financial reporting functions for a financial institution based in Reston, Virginia. The ideal candidate will oversee critical accounting operations, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and provide strategic financial leadership to support the organization's growth. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, a collaborative approach to leadership, and the ability to drive continuous improvement in financial processes.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the organization's accounting and external financial reporting processes, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial data.

• Lead the preparation and delivery of financial reports for executive management, auditors, and regulatory bodies.

• Manage daily accounting operations, including areas such as investment securities, accounts payable, fixed assets, and accrued expenses.

• Direct the production of monthly financial reports, forecasts, and variance analyses to inform decision-making.

• Maintain robust internal controls and ensure compliance with risk, audit, and regulatory requirements.

• Oversee the management of the general ledger and other accounting systems, ensuring their efficiency and accuracy.

• Collaborate with internal teams on asset liability management, liquidity strategies, budgeting, and profitability analysis.

• Provide leadership in the annual budgeting process and monitor financial performance against established metrics.

• Ensure the accurate and timely filing of tax returns and oversee the preparation of tax provisions.

• Stay informed on new accounting standards and implement necessary changes to align with regulatory and industry guidelines. Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA certification preferred.

• Extensive experience in accounting and financial reporting within the financial services industry.

• Strong knowledge of accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and compliance practices.

• Proficiency in accounting software systems, financial modeling, and forecasting tools.

• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

• Strong communication and collaboration abilities with both internal and external stakeholders.

• Commitment to staying current with industry trends and fostering continuous development.
