Duties Description The Occupational Therapist Supervisor I will be responsible for the Complex Rehabilitation Wheelchair Clinic. The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing patient assessments, prescription processes, and follow-up care; collaborates with vendors to evaluate and determine best-fit custom seating systems for both inpatient and outpatient individuals; customizes care plans tailored to individual patient needs, promoting independence and enhancing quality of life; provides follow-up support and make necessary adjustments and troubleshooting to equipment as patients’ conditions change; trains patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals on proper use, maintenance, and safety of wheelchairs and assistive devices; prepares and submits detailed justification letters for insurance coverage, outlining the medical necessity of complex rehab technology (CRT) devices for patients, ensuring compliance with insurance requirements and Medicare/Medicaid guidelines; communicates with equipment manufacturers and suppliers to learn the most up to date products and ensure timely delivery and proper fitting of specialized mobility devices and seating systems; completes pressure mapping and other seating evaluations to assure proper positioning and provide inpatients with appropriate equipment during their stay; and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Transfer: Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service in a position allocated to Grade 20 or above, and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to Occupational Therapist Supervisor 1. Open to the Public (HELPS Qualifications): Possession of a license and current registration as an occupational therapist in New York State, and three years of post-licensure occupational therapy experience.Promotion Provisional: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. Possession of a license and current registration as an Occupational Therapist in New York State, and one year of permanent service as an Occupational Therapist.Preferred Qualifications: A minimum of three fulltime years of experience in the field of Occupational Therapy currently licensed and with ATP certification. At least 2 full years serving complex populations. Experience in complex wheelchair management. Experience with inpatient and outpatient with a strong ability to collaborate with vendors. Strong knowledge of insurance and guidelines for wheelchair ordering. Strong ability to develop and create payment justification for all insurances.

To be eligible, candidates must have possession of a license and current registration as an occupational therapist in New York State, and three years of post-licensure occupational therapyexperience.Posted salary range ($99,326 - $121,230 annually) includes statutory hiring rate at job rate for PS&T Grade 22 ($82,326 - $104,230), plus an additional geographic pay differential of $13,000 and downstate adjustment of $4,000. For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.
