JOB SUMMARY
The Department of Public Works (DPW) Golf Cart Support Specialist will assist with daily golf cart tracking during service hours, assisting the volunteer crew with service when needed, assist the Maintenance Specialists as needed, helping catalog inventory and broken down cart repairs, maintain the shop in a clean and tidy atmosphere, be the front face of the shop at times and maintain a friendly and professional demeanor while providing hospitable, service-oriented support to all Golf Cart users. This role is primarily based in the Golf Cart Shop onsite. They will also assist remotely within the event site when called for mobile repairs, breakdowns or maintenance during the event, and will assist with Golf Cart shop build pre-event and Golf Cart clean-up and returns post-event.
This temporary, ineligible for benefits role is:
+ From August - September : Full-Time , Non-Exempt , based in Black Rock City, Nevada .

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Daily Operations (80%):
+ Assist with Golf Cart Shop build pre-event.
+ Report any misuse or damage of the golf carts to the Golf Cart Manager.
+ Safely equip all golf carts with adequate lighting and other required equipment.
+ Assist the service crew volunteers in times of need (Lunch breaks, service overflow, etc.)
+ Train daily Volunteer Resource Team (VRT) volunteers how to properly do cart service.
+ Act as key and cart tracker during daily service to follow the operational protocols.
+ Ensure timely service is being provided and the correct cart service order is being observed.
+ Maintain service crew volunteers, service supplies daily and acquire refills.
+ Provide friendly service to the users of the golf carts.
+ Provide “after hours” urgent repair services while on shift as part of the on-call tech team.
+ Remove all added equipment from carts and prepare for return to the vendor.
+ Track all golf carts and ensure all are returned to the vendor in the same condition we received them.
Leadership (15%)
+ Act as a helpful and transparent intermediary for involved departments and managers.
+ Reasonably, and creatively assist staff with problem-solving efforts and alternate solutions.
+ Effectively manages own time and supports the efforts of the team as a whole to create an environment of accountability, collaboration, and flexibility of focus in the crew.
+ Be prepared to operate effectively, safely and sober at all times to support the top priority tasks during working hours.
+ Prepare written feedback for the Golf Carts Manager describing the successes of the season, suggestions and areas in need of improvement for the next year; Submit an end-of-season EMBER Report.
Other Functions and Responsibilities (5%)
+ Attend and support department Morning Meetings.
+ Work with the Business Operations Teams to plan and execute LNT and Waste stream plans.
+ Be familiar with, understand and act in accordance with Burning Man’s staff policies, protocols and behavioral standards.
+ Participate in specified projects and perform other job-related duties as assigned.

+ Documentation - Assists in the maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties.
+ Knowledge sharing – Helps acculturate and educate junior staff in Burning Man culture and business processes.
+ Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
+ Ability to temporarily relocate for work at the Burning Man event held in Gerlach, Nevada.
+ Experienced in customer service and creating a positive and welcoming environment.
+ Great organizational ability and attention to detail.
+ Clear, service-oriented and professional communication, verbally and through written correspondence.
+ Experienced with using 2 way radios and following radio protocol.
+ Able to embody proactive, present and responsive leadership qualities for a diverse team while still maintaining firm boundaries and adhering to set standards.
+ Operates with behavioral integrity and discretion of sensitive or important information; maintains organization and tidiness in work ethics and the work environment.
+ Able to receive and integrate feedback into action, remain calm and focused under pressure and emergency situations, and maintain a respectful demeanor that leads by example.
+ Capacity to identify tasks and initiate execution with minimal direction.
+ Capable of working in an extreme environment including drastic temperature changes, high winds, poor air quality and low to no visibility at times.
Preferred
+ It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and/or is familiar with its culture.
+ Familiarity with DPW.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
+ Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
COMPENSATION
Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated rate for this position:
+ From August - September is $15.00 - $17.00 per hour .
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
+ Off-playa: Work is primarily standing and bending while cleaning and restoring Golf Carts to original status. This happens in Reno and away from the extremes of the playa.
+ On-playa: This position requires periods of heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing. This position will be physically demanding, and requires individuals with good physical health, and endurance. Work will include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Much of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
