    Scope of Job

    Responsible for overseeing and leading UTRGV’s brand strategy through innovative, data-driven initiatives and digital transformation ensuring the alignment of departmental efforts within the University’s goals for growth and excellence. To advance the university’s reputation by developing and executing forward-thinking strategies that strengthen brand awareness, enhance audience engagement, and drive institutional storytelling.

    Description of Duties

    + Strategically develops, implements, and oversees comprehensive brand strategy initiatives that enhance UTRGV’s reputation through digital-first, data-driven approaches.

    + Leads the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that promote cutting-edge innovation and strategic growth within the university.

    + Establishes the overarching branding strategy for the division, defining measurable objectives and performance metrics to ensure all departmental efforts align with the university’s brand goals and objectives.

    + Drives the integration of data-driven decision making and marketing automation technologies to enhance campaign performance.

    + Maintains a real-time, accessible dashboard to track branding performance, enabling continuous assessment and refinement of brand strategies.

    + Utilizes data analytics and audience insights to inform creative storytelling and multi-channel brand campaigns across digital, print, and social media platforms.

    + Collaborates with the Vice President of University Marketing & Communications and key institutional leaders to integrate brand strategy with broader university initiatives.

    + Provides strategic leadership to the brand strategy and innovation team, fostering a culture of creative excellence, digital transformation, and continuous improvement.

    + Oversees the measurement, analysis, and reporting of key performance indicators related to brand engagement, audience growth, and digital marketing effectiveness.

    + Collaborates with cross-functional teams within marketing, communications, and creative teams to ensure consistency in messaging, visual identity, and brand storytelling.

    + Inspires and supports division-wide efforts to enhance the UTRGV brand by promoting innovative ideas and best practices in brand strategy and marketing.

    + Plans and oversees assigned budgets, including those related to strategic initiatives and innovation projects and resource allocation to maximize marketing Return of Investment ( ROI ).

    + Develops, cultivates and maintains strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external partners, and industry leaders to drive brand innovation and thought leadership.

    + Manages personnel functions, including hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, and providing professional development opportunities to support a high-performing team.

    + Represents UTRGV in industry conferences, professional training programs, and strategic committees to stay at the forefront of brand strategy and marketing innovation.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    Direct supervision of assigned staff.

    Required Education

    Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field from an accredited university.

    Preferred Education

    Master’s degree from an accredited university.

     

    Licenses/Certifications

     

    None.

    Required Experience

    Seven (7) years of experience in brand strategy, digital marketing, communications, or a related field, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.

    Preferred Experience

    Experience in digital transformation, audience engagement, and data-driven storytelling within higher education or a similarly complex environment.

     

    Equipment

     

    Use of standard office equipment.

    Working Conditions

    Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. Some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

    Other

    Exceptional planning and organizational skills. Strong analytical and creative abilities, with expertise in transforming data-driven insights into impactful brand strategies. Proven ability to develop and execute innovative marketing and branding initiatives. Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

     

    Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with various populations. Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Must have ability to work under pressure, solve problems, and negotiate.
