The Baruch STEP Academy is an academic enrichment program focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and providing college preparation. Managed through the Research Foundation of CUNY, we serve 250 middle and high school students throughout the city each year.

Course Title: Environmental Sustainability
Course Description: Students will explore the history of human impacts on the global ecosystem. This course will study the main threats to the preservation of Earth's natural resources. Students will focus on how to create a sustainable future that supports environmental justice. This course is designed for students interested in careers in climate change or environmental science.
Summary of Responsibilities:
The STEP Academy at Baruch College is seeking to fill a summer instructor position for the high school program. The course will introduce high school students to an intensive science subject for a month. The goal of the course is to engage students in an exploratory science experience, not provided in a standard classroom. Instructors will prepare students to participate in the annual showcase displaying research posters, projects, and/or oral presentation.
The Summer 2025 Program will run for 16 sessions: July 7 - July 31 from 9am-2pm (Mondays through Thursdays ONLY).
Schedule: Monday through Thursday from 9am to 2pm + weekly one hour faculty meetingSalary: The pay rate is $45 an hour for a total of $4,500. This includes 72 hours of instruction (including lunch) and 28 hours for campus orientation, weekly staff meetings, and prep work. Only applicants that submit a cover letter will be considered. Deadline for submission is May 26th. Request for interviews will start immediately.
Other Duties
+ Prepare and teach original course curriculum for a max of 20 students
+ Evaluate student and group performance
+ Provide staff with measurable results in student learning through assessments
+ Monitor and maintain student attendance records
+ Reassess curriculum to account for students' needs, interest, and understanding of material
+ Plan for end of semester project
+ Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required
+ Availability for each program day from 9am – 2pm
+ Degree in environmental science or related STEM
+ Experience in a teaching capacity in subject area
+ Experience with designing/implementing a course curriculum
+ Have a strong classroom management style
Preferred:
+ Prior experience working with middle or high school students
+ Possess innovative and creative instructional methods
+ Enthusiasm for designing original, self-directed curriculum
+ Have a strong classroom management style
+ Demonstrated ability to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment
