Job Title: Senior Project Engineer – Electronics Systems NPD
Job Description
The Senior Project Engineer – Electronics Systems NPD plays a crucial role within the New Product Development team, focusing on the design and development of electronic and electromechanical controls for residential and commercial water heaters, boilers, and heat pumps. This position requires the application of systems engineering principles to drive requirement management, architecture and design specification creation, and V-model-based verification planning. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, external partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure the safety, quality, reliability, and performance of control systems.
Systems Engineering & V-Model Implementation
+ Apply systems engineering aligned with the V-model development process.
+ Develop and manage system-level requirements and decompose them into hardware, software, and firmware specifications.
+ Create architecture and design specifications compliant with industry and regulatory standards.
+ Develop functional block diagrams and visual specifications to align teams on project objectives.
+ Define bench-level and system-level test plans to verify compliance with defined requirements.
New Product Development (NPD) Execution
+ Serve as a core NPD team member, managing requirements, design reviews, and validation plans.
+ Collaborate across mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software teams to ensure seamless system integration.
+ Partner with internal and external electronics teams to deliver new electronic control solutions.
+ Ensure modular, scalable, and reusable design strategies.
Testing & Validation
+ Develop and execute application test plans aligned with system requirements.
+ Lead design verification and validation (DV&V) using appropriate tools and methodologies.
+ Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, and IEC standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Documentation
+ Build and maintain system/module specification libraries.
+ Participate in FMEA/DFMEA and design reviews.
+ Document installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures.
+ Support service and training teams with robust documentation and strategies.
Basic Qualifications
+ B.S. in Electrical, Electronics, or Systems Engineering (ABET-accredited).
+ 5+ years in electronic systems development with emphasis on requirements management and V-model methodologies.
+ Experience with systems engineering tools, requirement decomposition, and verification planning.
+ Strong understanding of system integration across hardware, software, and firmware.
+ Familiarity with RS-485, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, PLC/PID, and test instrumentation (oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.).
+ Experience with reliability engineering, root cause analysis, and DFMEA/FMEA.
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Work Environment
The first 90 days require working in the office, followed by a schedule of 2 days work from home. The team is part of a growing New Product Development group, benefiting from an expanding office and new growth opportunities.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $110000.00/yr.
