As an Automation Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design, configuration, and commissioning of PLC-based control systems to support automated industrial process monitoring and continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS). You will be involved in the initial design process and provide hands-on technical oversight of systems configuration, testing, and integration at customer sites. This position requires up to 25% travel to support integration, commissioning, and system training at customer sites. Responsibilities
+ Design, configure, and commission PLC-based control systems for industrial process monitoring and CEMS.
+ Participate in the initial design process and provide technical oversight during system configuration and testing.
+ Integrate and commission systems at customer sites.
+ Maintain and improve existing PLC ladder logic programs for CompactLogix and ControlLogix PLC-based monitoring systems.
+ Develop and enhance Allen-Bradley HMI for user interface with PLCs.
+ Configure and support communications gateway devices for command and control between field devices and PLCs.
+ Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing of products and systems before shipment.
+ Assist with onsite installation, startup, and commissioning activities at industrial locations.
+ Contribute to ongoing improvements in design and operation of monitoring systems, controls, and equipment at customer facilities.
+ Provide communication and control system support and troubleshooting for customers.
+ Troubleshoot analytical instrumentation and support equipment, control, and metering issues and correct deficiencies.
+ Maintain records of readings and test results for assigned equipment.
+ Perform work according to logic diagrams, electrical and mechanical drawings, and other written instructions.
Essential Skills
+ In-depth knowledge of PLC programming using Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 Logix Designer software for ControlLogix and CompactLogix processors.
+ Proficiency in hardware-based HMI development using Allen-Bradley PanelView panels.
+ Understanding of digital and analog process signal measurement and control as related to PLCs.
+ Ability to communicate technical concepts with vendors, internal staff, and end users.
+ Capability to work in a team-oriented environment to achieve team and company goals.
+ Proven ability to complete projects on time and within established budgets.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Familiarity with Microsoft SQL and SQL Server software.
+ Working knowledge of Open Platform Communications (OPC) software.
+ Experience with Ethernet communications protocols such as TCP/IP and MODBUS.
+ Knowledge of wiring techniques for analog and digital PLC communications modules.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
Work Environment
The work environment involves maintaining and improving PLC-based monitoring systems and HMIs, configuring communications gateway devices, and participating in Factory Acceptance Testing. You will assist with onsite installation and commissioning activities at industrial locations, contributing to improvements in design and operation of monitoring systems and providing support and troubleshooting for communication and control systems. The role requires adherence to logic diagrams, electrical and mechanical drawings, and other written instructions.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
