    Job Title: Plant TechnicianJob Description

     

    The Combustion Technician is entrusted with ensuring the effective, efficient, compliant, and safe operation of the power plant and its auxiliary systems and equipment. This role involves operating and monitoring the status of all plant systems continuously to meet generating requirements while adhering to all applicable permits, codes, and regulations.

    Responsibilities

    + Promote safety, environmental, and regulatory excellence by demonstrating leadership in shaping the plant’s culture.

    + Operate the facility within compliance with all State and Federal permits and regulations.

    + Adhere to company policies and comply with all site-specific safety requirements and procedures.

    + Operate, monitor, and track normal operations of the plant equipment.

    + Utilize specific procedures from the plant operating manuals to shut down and start-up plant equipment aiming for safe, consistent, and optimum plant output.

    + Test and treat water chemistry control as per written procedures.

    + Maintain timely and accurate recordkeeping of operating logs, timesheets, work orders, and other administrative documents.

    + Investigate and troubleshoot plant issues to correct problems and provide feedback, analysis, and recommendations.

    + Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and de-energized electrical equipment, including gas turbines, gas compressors, motors, pumps, and other auxiliary equipment.

    + Participate in the administrative maintenance and upgrading of operating manuals, preventive/predictive maintenance procedures, technical references, prints, and diagrams.

    + Assist with training new and existing operators and other plant staff.

    + Support continuous improvement work system by participating in team activities, sharing ideas, learning new techniques, and coaching team members.

    + Identify safety hazards and take corrective actions as necessary.

    + Attend safety meetings and training programs, and participate in plant safety programs.

    + Ensure that lockout/tagout processes and work permit processes comply with plant safety procedures.

    + Complete plant operator training.

    + Maintain the plant in a neat and orderly manner.

    Essential Skills

    + Five-plus years of experience in gas turbine operations and maintenance.

    + Experience with General Electric LM6000 turbines or similar equipment.

    + Ability to read and interpret electrical/mechanical flow and instrument diagrams.

    + Knowledge of turbine instrumentation calibration, including various types of transmitters.

    + Experience with control systems.

    + Ability to troubleshoot controls and logic.

    + Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office (Word & Excel).

    + Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

    + Ability to work independently and interact with team members and departments throughout the organization.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Ability to multitask effectively.

    + Experience in a similar role within the gas turbine power plant sector.

    + Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

    Work Environment

    This position is located in a peaker plant (natural gas) in Sylacauga, AL. The role involves working in a control room and throughout the plant. The schedule may be inconsistent, typical for any operator role within a power plant.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $35.00/hr.
