    About this Job

     

    This position is located in the Acadiana Area Human Services District – Dr. Joseph Henry Tyler Behavioral Health Clinic located in Lafayette.

     

    This incumbent will function in the capacity of a behavioral health counselor, serving the acute and/or chronically mentally ill adult population, the emotionally/behaviorally disturbed child/adolescent population and their families and/or clients with addictive disorders/co-occurring disorders. The incumbent will collaborate with psychiatrists, medical psychologists, nurses, pharmacists, and support staff regarding therapeutic interventions, diagnosis, and provision of evidence-based treatments via individual, family, or group therapy for clients indicated as meeting target population criteria.

     

    This AAHSD SITE is NHSC (National Health Service Corps) APPROVED. QUALIFYING PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS MAY BE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE LOAN REPAYMENT PROGRAM.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice as a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) or a Provisional Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (PLMFT) plus two years of counseling experience.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    Participates in the decision making process of the treatment team including formulating therapeutic activities and recommending a treatment plan.

     

    Fulfills the duties of case manager for a specialized caseload of clients with medical or behavior problems requiring coordination of services with many professionals, and having severe consequences of injury or harm.

     

    Manages a caseload by scheduling appointments, evaluating client progress in counseling sessions and making recommendations to the treatment team.

     

    Conducts complex assessments and independent selection and use of varied in-depth therapies in the treatment of individuals with multi-problem dual diagnosis substance abuse problems (as defined by the Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners in Rule (LAC 46:LX.503.e)).

     

    Develops and plans services that address and/or includes family therapy, marital counseling, child abuse and sexual abuse therapy, major family disruption, developmental disabilities, death and suicide.

     

    Serves as co-therapist with social workers to perform case management or direct treatment services for a specialized complex caseload of clients with alcohol and drug abuse problems.

     

    May provide expert testimony and recommendations on behalf of clients in court cases in response to judges and other officers of the court.

     

    Serves as liaison and coordinator between clients, families, community, and service providers.

The level at which the vacancy is filled will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected. This position provides the opportunity to advance within this job series.
