    General Statement of Duties

     

    To supervise, assign and monitor the work of employees responsible for maintenance and construction of assigned facilities and grounds; to interact with citizens and respond to inquiries and comments; to oversee the operation and maintenance of equipment in the assigned area of responsibility; to perform administrative tasks as assigned.

     

    Additional Description of Work Performed

     

    The Parks/Recreation Maintenance Crew Leader in the Facilities Division of the Cincinnati Park Board is responsible for supervising, assigning, and monitoring the work of staff engaged in the maintenance, repair, and construction of park facilities and grounds. This role ensures that all tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard of quality.

    Key duties include:

    + Supervising daily maintenance and repair operations of park facilities, including buildings, restrooms, shelters, recreational structures, and related infrastructure.

    + Assigning and overseeing work crews, ensuring that projects are completed promptly and by established procedures and safety guidelines.

    + Monitoring the use and maintenance of tools, vehicles, and equipment, and ensuring proper operation and care.

    + Responding to public inquiries, concerns, and complaints professionally and courteously, and providing appropriate resolutions or information.

    + Performing on-site inspections to assess maintenance needs, track progress, and identify any safety or operational issues.

    + Coordinating schedules, material orders, and work assignments with supervisors and other divisions as needed.

    + Completing administrative duties such as maintaining work logs, preparing reports, and assisting with planning and budgeting tasks.

    + Supporting seasonal and special event operations and providing emergency response as required.

     

    This position plays a key leadership role in maintaining the functionality and appearance of Cincinnati’s park facilities, while fostering positive public engagement and promoting the Park Board’s mission to deliver safe, well-maintained, and accessible public spaces.

     

    Minimum Qualifications (KSAs)

    Knowledge of:

    Methods and techniques of management, motivation and persuasion.

     

    Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation.

    Supervise, organize and review the work of lower-level staff.

    Interpret and explain City policies and procedures.

     

    Prepare clear and concise reports.

     

    Maintain appropriate records.

     

    Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

     

    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including contractors, City officials, and the general public.

     

    Operate and maintain all types of construction, repair, and maintenance equipment. Perform basic mathematic computations.

     

    Use computer for data base, CAGIS, spreadsheets and word processing.

     

    Operate assigned vehicle.

     

    Display knowledge of tree insect and disease identification.

     

    Properly design, lay out and install plantings.

     

    Take basic chemical readings for water and to be able to distinguish between different shades of blue and red.

     

    Use meters to determine voltage and amps.

     

    Use a wide variety of specialized hand and power tools to troubleshoot and maintain buildings and water feature systems.

     

    Operate and work from a scissors lift at a height of twenty-six (26) feet.

     

    Required Education and Experience

     

    Each applicant must have a High School diploma or GED and three years of full-time experience in building or grounds maintenance, construction, or a related field.

     

    An Associate degree or a minimum of 18 semester credit hours in building or grounds maintenance, construction, or a related field may be substituted for up to two years of experience.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    Possession of a valid Driver's License.

     

    Ability to obtain a Pool & Spa Operator Certificate (The Ohio Aquatic Council) or a Commercial Pesticide Applicator License within twelve (12) months of employment (Ohio Department of Agriculture).

     

    Note: Passing a Civil Service examination is required as part of the selection process for this position. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will receive instructions on how to complete the exam.

    Environmental Conditions:

    Indoor and outdoor environments; exposure to office computer screens; exposure to extremes in weather conditions; work with machinery, around moving vehicles; work on slippery or uneven surfaces; exposure to dust, exhaust fumes, toxic chemicals.

    Essential and other important responsibilities and duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time; moderate lifting and carrying; general manual dexterity required; must be able to operate assigned vehicle.

    The City of Cincinnati 80/20 offers 3 medical plans to all full time City of Cincinnati employees and eligible dependents: the 80/20 PPO medical plan, the HDHP medical plan with an HSA contribution, and a Health Reimbursement Arrangement for those enrolled on another non-city eligible group plan.

    Flexible Benefits Plans

     

    Healthcare Flex Spending Account

     

    City employees can participate in the Healthcare Flex Spending Account that can be used to pay out-of-pocket medical, prescription, dental, and vision care expenses for employees and family members.

     

    Dependent Care Flex Spending Account

     

    City employees can participate in a Dependent Care Flex Spending Account that can be used to pay work-related dependent care expenses. Participants can set aside money each year through pre-tax payroll deductions to pay for these expenses.

     

    Transportation Expense Reimbursement Account

     

    City employees can participate in a Transportation Expense Reimbursement Account (TERA) that can be used to reimburse expenses related to traveling to and from work. Participants can set-up a pre-tax payroll deduction up to an IRS regulated amount.

     

    Healthy Lifestyles Program

     

    City employees can voluntarily participate in a wellness incentive program that encourages and rewards employees and their spouses/equal partners for making positive choices for better health. The City of Cincinnati will contribute up to $300/year to a Health Reimbursement Account for each the employee and their spouse/equal partner for meeting specified program goals. These dollars can be used to offset qualified out-of-pocket medical expenses.

     

    Integrated Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)

     

    This is a voluntary program that serves as an alternative healthcare option to traditional medical plans. If you have alternate group health coverage available to you through a spouse, equal partner, another job, or a non-city retirement plan, you may be eligible for this plan which reimburses you for the difference in premiums between the plans and your covered out of pocket expenses on the other plan.

     

    Retirement Plan

     

    The City provides a defined benefit pension plan for part-time and full-timeemployees. New hires and re-hired employees are required to participate in the City of Cincinnati's Retirement System (CRS), regardless of previous participation in an Ohio State pension system or any another state or federal pension system. CRS is funded by employer and employee contributions, and investment returns from plan assets. CRS provides retirement and health care benefits subject to eligibility requirements. The following groups are excluded from participation in CRS: Mayor and Members of City Council; Sworn Police & Fire; Police Recruits; and Rehired Ohio Police & Fire Retirees.

     

    Deferred Compensation

     

    As an Ohio government employer, the City offers employees the ability to participate in a 457(b) tax-deferred retirement savings plan. The City makes an annual match to your 457(b) of up to $750, or as otherwise specified in applicable regulations and union contracts.
