    Key/Essential Functions & Responsibilities

    + Advocates for the use of technology by the people we support to reach their goals and maintain their independence by leading the identification and evaluation of assistive and enabling products and technologies that best support individual needs for assigned region(s) in collaboration with persons supported, program staff and Center for Innovation and Engagement.

    + Supports person-centered technology initiatives across the agency as part of the Center for Innovation and Engagement by designing, building, customizing and testing technologies in the person-centered technology lab, conducting demos and presentations of related technologies and sharing the value of technological innovation to internal staff, circles of support and other key stakeholders.

    + Remains current with technological innovations and related trends that may enhance the lives of persons with I/DD and identifies opportunities for YAI to expand its ability to integrate technology in day-to-day support, regularly researching new technologies and following advancements in the technology realm.

    + Actively engages potential partners and vendors, connecting with technology companies to arrange demonstrations and trials and participating in seminars, conferences and related presentations to develop relationships and remain aware of new and changing technologies.

    + Receives and reviews referrals from programs across assigned region(s) and conducts on-site and virtual technology assessments to determine suitable technological interventions for persons supported, including smart-home technology and individualized supports.

    + Develops technology plans using person-centered thinking to support design and implementation of appropriate technologies for individuals, coordinating the selection, procurement, installation and use of new technologies in collaboration with program staff.

    + Regularly travels to programs across assigned region(s) to support person-centered technology needs and implementations, transporting equipment or tools, as needed.

    + Submits orders for equipment and technologies and/or collaborates with supervisor to review grant eligibility and obtain authorization for larger purchases.

    + Coordinates with program staff to ensure that technological supports are included in Life and other individualized plans.

    + Assists with establishment of baseline metrics for each individual prior to implementation of person-centered technologies to support collection of data and assessment of individuals’ progress.

    + Provides training to persons supported and to program staff providing support in the appropriate operation and intentions of newly implemented person-centered technologies.

    + Provides on-site, in-person and/or virtual technical support to persons supported and/or program staff across assigned region(s) to troubleshoot person-centered technology issues, coordinate replacement or repairs of related equipment or provide related support.

    + Conducts regular follow-ups regarding implemented technologies across assigned region(s), communicating with persons supported and program staff to ensure that technology is working as intended and addresses problems or concerns when expectations are not being met.

    + Facilitates individual person-centered technology plan development meetings and participates in regional leadership and clinical meetings to remain informed and to present on person-centered technology initiatives and innovations.

    + Performs all other duties, as assigned.

     

    Minimum Qualification Requirements including education, experience, licensure/certification, etc. and essential physical capabilities (e.g. lifting, assisting lifting, standing, etc.)

     

    + Bachelor’s degree in human services or related discipline; and

    + At least one (1) year of direct care experience with the I/DD population; or

    + Satisfactory equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training.

    + Person-centered focus and professional manner, including strong dedication and enthusiasm for implementing creative, individualized technological solutions that enhance the quality of care and increase the independence of the people we support.

    + Ability to work autonomously with limited direction and to build relationships and work collaboratively with internal and external staff, stakeholders and groups at all levels, while demonstrating positivity, patience, empathy and compassion in all interactions.

    + Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with the people we support, program staff and external partners.

    + Ability to teach technical skills and/or knowledge to the people we support and program staff in group or individual settings.

    + Solid problem-solving skills and good judgment, including the ability to troubleshoot, research and implement solutions to technical issues.

    + Proficiency with computers and electronic systems including utilizing Workday and/or related systems to complete tasks and with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook and PowerPoint.

    + Ability and willingness to regularly travel throughout assigned region(s) and to lift, carry and transport equipment/technology weighing up to 15 pounds to/from various YAI locations as needed and to travel to other regions on occasion.

    + Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate program needs, including working hours outside of regular work day, if needed.

    + Ability to meet essential physical demands of position, including using hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; sitting, standing, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching with hands and arms and to occasionally lift, carry and/or transport equipment weighing up to 15 pounds.

    Preferred Qualification Requirements (desired requirements beyond MQRs above)

    + Previous experience in assistive technology (AT) and specialized AT solutions, including use of 3D printers to create AT devices

    + Formal education, training and/or certification in AT, such as current Assistive Technology Practitioner (ATP) certification issued by Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA)

    + Valid Driver's License for assignments in areas with limited public transportation

    Compensation

    + $64,350 (annually)
