Job Summary:
The Early Intervention Physical Therapist provides specialized services to infants and toddlers (birth to three) who have developmental delays or disabilities. The therapist works collaboratively with families and a multidisciplinary team to promote the child's physical development in natural settings, such as the home, childcare, or community environments. This role requires a compassionate and skilled professional committed to empowering families and fostering each child’s growth and independence.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Conduct comprehensive developmental and functional assessments to identify the child’s physical therapy needs.
+ Develop individualized treatment plans based on evaluation results and family goals.
+ Participate in multidisciplinary team assessments and Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) development.
+ Provide direct physical therapy services to address gross motor development, mobility, balance, coordination, and postural control.
+ Educate and coach families on strategies and exercises to support their child’s physical development in daily routines.
+ Monitor and document the child’s progress, adjusting therapy plans as needed.
+ Collaborate with other early intervention providers (e.g., occupational therapists, speech therapists, educators) to ensure integrated services.
+ Maintain open, respectful, and supportive communication with families and caregivers.
+ Provide guidance on adaptive equipment and environmental modifications to optimize the child’s participation in daily activities.
+ Maintain accurate and timely records, including progress notes, treatment plans, and IFSP updates, in compliance with state and federal regulations.
+ Ensure services align with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part C requirements.
+ Stay current with best practices in pediatric physical therapy and early intervention.
+ Participate in ongoing training, workshops, and team meetings.
+ Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and positioning infants and toddlers.
+ Travel to family homes and community settings as required.
Qualifications:
+ Education: Bachelor of Physical Therapy or Master’s in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
+ Licensure: Active New Jersey licensure as a Physical Therapist.
+ Experience in pediatrics or early intervention is strongly preferred.
+ Knowledge of IDEA Part C and family-centered practices.
+ Strong assessment, communication, and collaboration skills.
+ Ability to work independently and within a team.
+ Proficiency in documenting services using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
