POSITION:The Assistant Superintendent is seeking applications from qualified individuals for the position of ANTICIPATED DEVELOPMENTAL SPECIALIST.
JOB DESCRIPTION:The Lackawanna City School District is seeking a professional dedicated to nurturing and supporting the growth and well-being of children during their formative years. This multifaceted role combines knowledge of early childhood developmental milestones and education while creating enriching environments and experiences that foster cognitive, emotional, social and physical health and development. A Childhood Developmental Specialist plays a vital role in the school setting through collaborating closely with parents, educators, paraprofessionals and related service providers to identify and address developmental needs, design age-appropriate curricula and activities, and implement strategies that promote positive learning experiences and outcomes. Their impact extends beyond the classroom, as they impower families and communities to create nurturing environments that support a child's overall development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Candidates must have a bachelor's or master's degree in education and hold one of the following certifications: School Psychologist, School Social Worker, Students with Disabilities, Speech Language Pathologist.
+ The candidate must have a deep understanding of child behavior, learning styles and developmental characteristics of students with Autism, Sensory Processing Disorders and Severe Language Disorders.
+ Candidate must be willing to obtain certification in Crisis Prevention through the Crisis Prevention Institute and DIR Floortime Therapy.
+ Candidate must be able to write and monitor behavior plans for students through collaboration with all stakeholders.
+ Candidate must have knowledge of research related to Positive Behavior Supports and / or Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.
+ Candidate must have the ability to coordinate and deliver professional development regarding developmental characteristics and needs of students with Autism, Sensory Processing Disorders and Severe Language Disorders.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Collaborate with district and building administrators to collect, analyze and utilize data for decision making.
+ The Developmental Specialist will work collaboratively with teachers, aide and student support staff to coordinate functional assessments of developmental needs that lead to incidents of dysregulation and develop plans that address the students' needs and provides a means to assist the student become more successful.
+ Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including psychologists, related service providers and teachers to provide comprehensive support for children and families.
+ Design and implement developmentally appropriate curricula, activities and interventions to support student growth and learning.
+ Observe and document student behavior, progress and areas of concern while providing guidance and support to stakeholders on effective parenting strategies, age-appropriate discipline techniques and communication.
+ Facilitate parent education workshops, support groups, or training sessions on various aspects of child development.
+ The Developmental Specialist will assess training needs for district personnel, support research, and support classroom and school wide behavior management strategies.
+ Promote healthy physical, cognitive, social and emotional student development.
+ Participate in professional development opportunities, such as conferences, workshops, or continuing education courses to enhance knowledge and skills.
+ Assumes any other duties assigned by the Principal of Special Education or the Superintendent of Schools.
+ Observe transitioning committee on preschool special education students during transition to kindergarten planning process to facilitate appropriate placement recommendations.
