Head of Group Captives

Zurich North America is currently looking for a Head of Group Captives. This position reports to the Head of U.S. Middle Market and is responsible for the strategic and tactical management of the Group Captives Business Unit and multi-billion dollar portfolio. We have a preference for the role to be based in the Chicagoland area as much of the team operates from the Schaumburg headquarters but the location is flexible for the right candidate. The position requires regular travel, including overseas travel for captive board meetings.

Responsibilities Include:

+ Setting a multi-year strategic vision and goals for the business.

+ Managing tactical plans to achieve profitable growth across all facets of the portfolio.

+ Creating an execution and results driven underwriting and customer culture.

+ Executing against established P&L metrics and goals.

+ Strategic management of key relationships with captive managers and captive members.

+ Interpret and review the commercial drivers in the market and the organization´s strategic goals, translate into objectives to develop cross-functional business cases for complex projects and programs and act as program sponsor to ensure effective delivery of projects.

+ Manage relationships with key internal stakeholders to ensure commercial viability and customer satisfaction.

+ Develop a people management plan to drive performance management in the organization and to optimize performance within the team, and manage performance of team members, including ensuring team members comply with company policies and expectations and take appropriate action.

Basic Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree and 15 or more years of experience in underwriting and the insurance industryAND

+ 5 or more years of experience in leadership roles

+ Business unit management experience

+ Captives experience

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Previous experience successfully running a large and complex business unit with P&L responsibility

+ Advanced and in-depth knowledge of Captives Business

+ Deep technical underwriting expertise with multiple lines of business with a strong bias to workers compensation and liability lines

+ Deep technical knowledge of reinsurance mechanisms

+ Deep technical knowledge of loss sensitive program structures

+ Established captive consultant relationships

+ Superior skills in relationship building, active listening and negotiation

+ Strong executive presence and leadership skills and the ability to interact with the C-Suite

+ Ability to manage vision and purpose, lead the organization through innovative and creative thinking

The compensation indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled. The proposed salary range for this position is 248,500.00-435,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 50%.
