Transmission Engineer/Analyst – Line Project Closeouts
_SCS Power Delivery Project Support – Central_
_This position is located in Birmingham, AL_
WORK LOCATION, SCHEDULE, & TRAVEL
+ This position will be based out of Birmingham, AL however candidates living outside of the area may be considered with the expectation that they could successfully telework and be physically present in-office and/or field location on a routine (see below) and as-needed basis.
+ Hybrid work schedule (both in-office and telecommute); currently four (4) days in-office and one (1) day telecommute (subject to adjustment).
+ Relocation assistance may be provided if the successful candidate does not currently live within a reasonable commute distance.
+ This position will require minimal travel (less than 25%)
JOB SUMMARY
The Transmission Engineer/Analyst is responsible for facilitating Project Closeout processes in support of the Operating Company's transmission capital project program. The successful candidate will be responsible for regular interaction with various departments among multiple organizations including, but not limited to Engineering, Supply Chain, Property Accounting, Project Management, Construction, and Compliance.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Create a safe work environment through personal commitment to safety.
+ Manage the capital project closeout process on behalf of the Transmission Engineering organization in adherence to the transmission capital Project Closeout management procedure which includes:
+ Closing capital projects.
+ Researching and resolving variances between actuals and estimates.
+ Tracking capital project closeout status.
+ Providing business reports and maintaining proper documentation.
+ Develop and leverage customer-focused relationships with all stakeholders involved in the design and construction of transmission line projects.
+ Serve as the Transmission Engineering Subject Matter Expert on FERC and Property Record Accounting.
+ Apply project closeout expertise to support and/or perform QA/QC of peer or contract vendor deliverables.
+ Participate in and support Southern Company Transmission activities and initiatives.
+ Serve as a damage assessment team member during major weather-related events (company-provided training).
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
_Education:_
+ Two-year degree from a technical school/university with related work experience is a required.
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Engineering or Engineering Technology is preferred.
_Experience:_
+ Prior experience managing transmission or distribution capital projects is preferred.
+ Prior experience in transmission line design and/or construction is strongly preferred.
+ Experience in distribution or transmission property accounting will be considered.
_Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:_
+ General knowledge of line design, construction, operation and maintenance.
+ General knowledge of operating company processes, procedures, and tools used in the development of transmission line projects.
+ Working knowledge of the Operating Company processes, procedures and tools for managing the transmission capital budget.
+ Experience with TEAMS, Maximo, Vault and/or PowerPlan is preferred.
+ Understanding of line construction scope, equipment, and associated costs.
+ Working knowledge of the SCS Transmission Engineering design standards and materials used in the construction of transmission line projects.
+ Detailed knowledge of all applicable FERC and company accounting policies.
+ Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products with the ability to manage and analyze large sets of transaction data.
+ Demonstrated proficiency in transmission software applications currently used to create, revise, research and close transmission line capital projects
+ Time management and organizational skills sufficient to manage multiple projects with various priorities and competing deadlines.
+ Exhibits strong problem solving, analytical, oral/written communication, and interpersonal skills.
+ Ability to build and maintain peer and customer professional working relationships across organizational lines.
