Position Title:
Technical/Content Writer

Job Responsibilities:
+ Compose and write technical articles, technical content creation, project reports and project case studies.
+ Assist teams of engineers and researchers with proposal writing and technical presentations
+ Support multi-entity proposal development and report preparation
+ Work collaboratively with internal/external teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements
+ Format and edit materials developed by others to ensure continuity of style and content; edit, clarify, and proofread all GIS documents
+ Compose and write copy for marketing materials including brochures, press releases, tradeshow displays, web site content, blogs, etc.
+ All other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
Experience
+ Bachelors degree in English, communications, journalism, preferred. Other degrees in related fields, and degrees such as history, political science, or technical degrees, will be considered for candidates with strong professional experience as a technical and creative writer.
+ At least 2-5 years of direct experience in planning, developing and writing special reports, studies, and summary documents that are analytical in nature and require content research.
Skills
+ Strong communication skills with internal/external clients; both verbally and written
+ Demonstrated ability to quickly learn technical subject matter and ability to quickly learn and document new technologies
+ Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite required
+ Exceptional creative and technical writing skills, and experience in editorial proofing
+ Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience in proposal writing and with developing and editing scientific and technical documents
+ Experience with writing social media, blog, and web content is strongly preferred
+ Some experience with Sustainability and/or Manufacturing is strongly preferred

The Golisano Institute for Sustainability (GIS) is a leading sustainability research and education organization at Rochester Institute of Technology. GIS is made up of a diverse set of academic programs and applied research centers focused on the optimization of industrial systems to maximize material and energy efficiency while minimizing adverse environmental impacts. Our six industry-facing applied research centers focus on sustainable manufacturing, energy, transportation, and buildings. They work to develop advanced technologies, sustainable industrial processes and practices, and data-informed policy recommendations. Each year, about 100+ companies, governments, and other organizations engage GIS’s research centers on a variety of projects to solve technical problems, innovate products or processes, research manufacturing technologies, reduce their environmental footprint, or commercialize a new technology. Research center projects are led by full-time professional staff with significant industry experience.

Job Summary:
The Technical/Content Writer job is to compose, write and edit technical and non-technical articles, to create other marketing content, and create and review project reports for grant and research projects at GIS. This position will also assist teams of GIS engineers, researchers, and marketers with proposal writing, marketing content writing, including social media and website content, and presentation content development. Position responsibilities will also include executing interviews with internal staff and external stakeholders to support the content generation processes.
