We are seeking an Assistant Vice President to join our Hair Care & Styling Formulation Development Team in our state of the art Clark, New Jersey (https://www.mycentraljersey.com/story/news/local/development/2025/02/28/loreal-opens-new-250000-square-foot-research-center-in-union-county/80689859007/) research facility . In this role, you will provide managerial, technical, and operational administration for the Hair Care & Styling Products Métier for Consumer Products Division (CPD) Brands.
As an Assistant Vice President in our Hair Care & Styling Formulation Development Team, your main responsibilities are:
+ Grow CPD hair care and styling by leading both Garnier and L'Oréal Paris brands for USA.
+ Leads the departmental efforts to identify, recommend, and utilize new product technology. Frame long-term and short-term strategy to establish market winning position.
+ As part of CPD 3.0 establish strong connection with the France R&I and DMI to build launch pannier with US consumer specificities.
+ Partner with Application Domain leaders to bring strategic innovations in the zone and help build global innovation portfolio with key consumer need gaps/opportunities
+ Lead the hair care Treatment program by defining market/consumer need gap. Identifying innovations that delivers consumer perceivable competitive performance and deployment of treatments across hair care brands.
+ Establish strong connection with marketing, operations and packaging to bring consumer relevant and competitive products in the market, involving deeper understanding of competition with regards to performance, claims and market positioning
+ Managing the development teams ensuring right people in the right jobs and ensure their development and upskilling. Retain talent and further strengthen the succession plan
+ Support portfolio expansion via acquisition with technical due diligence, integration of existing products and development of new products
+ Continue to strengthen Safety Culture across R&I; meet mandatory safety training requirement.
+ Approves and issues as final all formulas, either of US or French origin, to manufacturing with all accompanying ingredient and product specifications and clearances as required for general safety, microbiology, claim support, processing, and product/package interaction.
+ Tracks the progress of all ongoing projects, verifies schedules, launch dates, and other requirements, and acts as needed to maintain direction and timing, consistent with plans.
+ Develops and maintains a compatible and open working relationship with all other departments including Marketing, scale-up, Manufacturing, Product Safety, etc.
+ Plans and executes all departmental system requirements whose objective is to save time through minimization of error, elimination of redundant or repetitive tasks and the assurance of clarity of purpose of all departmental actions.
+ Leads all elements of departmental activity focused to identify, screen, and quickly produce prototype products utilizing new technology including visits to the French R&D laboratories, attendance at meetings and seminars, review of patents and contracts with universities and testing organizations.
+ Recommends training and developmental activities for all department staff, identifies new educational opportunities and assures that all recommended activities occurs and are followed up to measure impact.
+ Serves as the technical resource in all Hair Care & Styling products.
+ Develops, issues, and updates semi-annually generic/formulation guidelines in all Hair Care & Styling categories.
To Succeed in this Position, You Have:
+ A completed Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or related fields is required. Masters/PhD preferred.
+ 12+ years’ experience in cosmetic/personal care product formulation is required.
+ A proven track record of successfully developing and launching innovative hair care or related products with a deep understanding of formulation rheology, and hair science is preferred
+ People management (direct reports) experience is required including leading, managing and developing high performing cross-functional and multi-cultural teams.
+ Passion about pushing the boundaries of science and technology to create exceptional consumer experiences.
+ Must be able to articulate and implement a vision and motivate team members to achieve department goals & objectives.
+ Familiarity with testing methodology and procedures preferred.
+ Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills with local and global partners
+ The ability to be onsite, in the office as this is an essential function of the position (required)
+ Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time, permanent, ongoing basis, without the need for sponsorship now or in the future.
