    Hello, we’re L’Oréal,

We're not just building brands, we're shaping how the world experiences beauty (and it takes a lot of cool jobs to do it). Intrigued? Keep reading, this might be the opportunity you've been searching for.

Who We Are : At L’Oréal Research & Innovation, we are pushing the boundaries of Science & Tech. Our 4,100 L'Oréal R&I experts leverage Science & Technology to invent safe, trustable, sustainable & responsible beauty products and experiences that will change people’s lives.

We are seeking a Senior Scientist I to join our Hair Clinical & Physics Sciences Team in our state of the art Clark, New Jersey research facility (https://www.mycentraljersey.com/story/news/local/development/2025/02/28/loreal-opens-new-250000-square-foot-research-center-in-union-county/80689859007/) . In this role, you will design, coordinate and execute Hair Instrumental studies for exploratory knowledge studies, aid to formulation testing, and claims substantiation. In this function you will be working cross functionally with the formulation development labs (Hair Care and Hair Color) as well as Product Safety, Regulatory and Claims Legal teams.

As a Senior Scientist I in our Hair Clinical & Physics Sciences Team, your main responsibilities are:

+ Instrumental Test Design & Execution: You will be designing and proposing instrumental tests for a variety of purposes, from fundamental hair knowledge studies to aid-to-formulation testing and claims substantiation for new hair products. This involves collaborating closely with Hair formulation labs to understand their specific needs and translating those needs into robust testing strategies. You'll then oversee the execution of these tests, ensuring meticulous attention to detail and adherence to established protocols.

+ Collaboration & Methodology Selection: Collaborate with internal and external partners to determine the most appropriate testing methodologies for each project. This includes working with L'Oréal labs, outside vendors specializing in specific instrumental techniques, and international colleagues to leverage global expertise and ensure alignment on best practices. You'll also partner with the evaluation team to integrate instrumental testing results with other evaluation data for a comprehensive understanding of product performance.

+ Project Management & Prioritization: Effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously, driving them from inception to completion with a focus on quality, timeliness, and professionalism. This involves prioritizing your workload in consultation with your supervisor, meticulously tracking project progress, and proactively communicating any potential roadblocks or delays. You’ll utilize project management tools and techniques to ensure efficient resource allocation and on-time delivery of results.

+ Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze the data generated from instrumental tests, using your expertise to interpret complex results and draw meaningful conclusions. You'll then prepare clear and concise reports and memos to effectively communicate your findings to key stakeholders, including scientists, formulators, and marketing teams. Your ability to translate technical data into actionable insights will be crucial for informing product development and claims substantiation.

+ Literature Review & Knowledge Expansion: Stay at the forefront of hair science by regularly reviewing and summarizing published literature, both internal L'Oréal documents and external scientific publications. This ongoing learning will expand your hair knowledge base and inform the development of innovative testing methodologies. You'll actively seek out new research and share key findings with your team to contribute to the collective expertise within L'Oréal.

+ Operational Efficiency & Improvement: Continuously seek ways to improve the efficiency of the team's daily operations. This might involve optimizing testing procedures, streamlining data analysis processes, or implementing new technologies to enhance productivity. Your proactive approach to process improvement will contribute to the overall effectiveness and agility of the instrumental testing team.

To Succeed in this Position, You Have:

+ Education: A completed Bachelor's/Master's degree in a related science (Biological, Physical or Material Sciences, Chemical or Biomedical/Bio-Engineering, Physics/Optics, Color Science, or related fields) with 3-5 years of relevant industry experience is required.

Experience with mechanical testing, tensile and fatigue testing, Instron, Diastron, Spectrophotometer, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, clinical photography, and/or Scanning Electron Microscopy highly desirable

+ Data & Visualization: Proficiency in statistical and data analysis a plus, along with knowledge of image-analysis and computational software such as MatLab, LabVIEW, ImageJ, and ImagePro a plus

+ Strategic Thinking & Execution: Proven ability to think strategically, develop tactical plans, and translate ideas into actionable steps with measurable results.

+ Drive & Initiative: A results-oriented, entrepreneurial, and self-motivated individual with a bias for action and a willingness to take calculated risks.

+ Consumer Focus: A strong passion for consumer-centric product development with the ability to translate evaluation plans into actionable recommendations that enhance consumer satisfaction.

+ Communication & Presentation Skills: Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including the ability to confidently engage with and present to senior executives.

+ Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in MS Office, data entry, and statistical software programs (such as Compusense, SIMS, Spotfire, etc.).

+ The ability to be onsite, in the office as this is an essential function of the position (required)
