    Job Summary

    This position provides bedded outpatient Substance Abuse and Mental Health Treatment to patients in the HMHI Adult Receiving Center. This position will prescribe medications and provide short-term treatment for SUD /mental health disorders within their scope of practice and according to State Law.

     

    The Adult Receiving Center at Huntsman Mental Health Institute ( HMHI ) helps individuals get help during a mental health crisis 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Patients are supported by a skilled team of mental health care professionals who help patients receive care and create a connection to community resources.

     

    The interventions are short, highly intensive, and focused on resolving mental health crisis in the least restrictive manner possible. This approach leads to better patient outcomes with lower cost to an emergency room visit due to reduction of unnecessary inpatient care.

    Care is individualized to the needs of each patient:

    Crisis evaluation focused on understanding individual needs

     

    Psychiatric assessment of a person’s mental health condition

     

    Medication prescribing, if needed, for stabilizing symptoms

     

    Solution-focused therapy, peer support, and case management

     

    Recommendations for next steps and connection to ongoing support

     

    Crisis observation, if needed, for up to 23 hours

    Responsibilities

    + Takes complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians.

    + Performs physical examinations.

    + Orders laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures.

    + Orders and supervises the administration of blood products.

    + Reaches tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical and other conditions.

    + Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician to provide optimal patient medical management.

    + Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.

    + Assists in the collection of data for research projects.

    + Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams.

    + Participates in special projects and committee functions.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Required:

    + Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

    + Must hold a valid registered license in the state where they intend to practice as an advanced practice psychiatric mental health nurse and have successfully completed ANCC certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner ( PMHNP -BC).

    Preferred:

    + 2 years of ambulatory mental health experience is preferred

     

    Preferences

     

    Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
