The Role

The specific position is in the area of valve engineering, where the individual will be responsible for standard Navy valve designs and vendor proprietary valve designs used in Naval nuclear plants. Immediate emphasis will be on supporting existing valve designs via problem resolution, design improvement, and maintenance procedure refinement.

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;

Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;

Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

General knowledge of the design, operation, and/or testing of power plant systems and components, and should be able to apply engineering principles, theory, technology, and tools to analyze and resolve engineering problems of moderate complexity in new and existing mechanical component designs.

Familiarity with general manufacturing processes as well as military and/or commercial requirements for welding, nondestructive testing, and materials is desirable.

Excellent verbal and technical writing skills, and experience in project management is beneficial.
