    In this position...

     

    As a key member of the Aftertreatment, Emissions, and Advanced Propulsion Systems Engineering team within Vehicle Propulsion Systems Engineering (VPSE), you will provide technical leadership to the aftertreatment and emissions team with the goal of delivering robust aftertreatments. This is a hybrid role both onsite and remote.

     

    What you'll do...

     

    + Lead VPSE CAE aftertreatment activities to support aftertreatment design and development.

    + Provide technical leadership for aftertreatment system development and component design by means of analytical simulations and tools to meet the emission targets with the best practices for cost saving.

    + Lead exhaust temperature and back pressure estimation to guide aftertreatment system development and design, and work with exhaust D&R team to address needs and to resolve concerns in aftertreatment system back pressure reduction efforts.

    + Update and maintain data from aftertreatment laboratory and vehicles for enhancing program calibration, validation, and simulation capabilities.

    + Work with aftertreatment laboratory, if necessary, to generate data for expanding simulation capacity.

    + Collaborate with other CAE activities in IPTSE to share the best practices and lessons learned.

    + Develop and maintain exhaust emission related analytical programs and tools.

    + Update analytical programs and tools whenever necessary when more efficient and better algorithms are available.

    + Update and maintain CAE modeling program related documentation.

     

    You'll have...

     

    BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or similar degree.

     

    6+ years of experience in CAE modeling.

     

    10+ years working within Ford’s Powertrain product development system and familiarity with GPDS process.

     

    Even better, you may have...

     

    MS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or similar.

     

    Good working knowledge of gasoline aftertreatment system components, including three-way catalyst (TWC) and gasoline particulate filter (GPF).

     

    Good working knowledge of diesel aftertreatment system components as well, including selective catalytic reaction (SCR), ammonia storage catalyst (ASC) and diesel particulate filter (DPF).

     

    Preferred to have working knowledge of filtration efficiency fundamentals.

     

    Strong understanding of exhaust system thermal and back pressure fundamentals and preferred to have analytical background as well.

     

    Strong background of heat / mass transfer mechanisms and reaction kinetics, including TWC chemistry such as oxygen storage capacity (OSC) and related reaction kinetics.

     

    Required fundamental knowledge of solution algorithms for ODE / PDE, including reaction terms, and understanding characteristics of stiff ODE.

     

    Strong background of reaction kinetics and rate expressions for general emission and related analytical simulations.

     

    Strong programming skills mandatory (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink, C, Python, etc.).

     

    Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.

     

    Ability to work cross-functionally across the various organizations.

     

    Strong leadership skills, passion for quality, passion for customer – inherent self-starter with strong drive for results.

     

    Strong skills in project planning and management – must have experience in managing large complex projects.

     

    Strong oral/written communication skills to lead group projects, issue resolution, and management reviews.

    This position is a range of salary grades **LL6** .
