    SUMMARY

    The Purchasing Manager will form an integral part of the Purchasing function in the achievement of Operational objectives. With a strong, solid background in purchasing and supply chain management, the candidate will take a proactive approach in reviewing current systems and procedures, making recommendations, and implementing changes. The role is key to leading the Company forward in securing quality suppliers of materials and components covering price delivery and quality targets.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

     

    • Managing and controlling all the company’s external suppliers with particular emphasis on the purchase of Materials and finished parts for production.

    • Ensure parts and materials are bought at the most competitive price and delivered on time for production.

    • Establish strategic relationships with key suppliers (probably turnkey including design) who are aligned to the company's needs.

    • Ensures quality of procured items and addresses problems when they arise.

    • Foster close working relationships with associated departments e.g., Sales, Engineering and Production.

    • Escalates critical shortages to management when customer order fulfillment will be affected, or production schedules are disrupted.

    • Monitors and manages supplier prices and performance to ensure achievement of goals.

    • Continually improve purchasing methods and drive down external spending.

    • To carry out a comprehensive review of the Purchasing function and its methodology and identify and implement improvements.

    • Performs additional duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Managers a team of 3-5 employees.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     • Bachelor’s Degree in supply chain management, logistics or business administration preferred.

    • 2-3 years purchasing management experience.

    • Extensive experience of working with MRP systems is essential.

    • High competency level in use of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, as a minimum).

    • Familiar with import and export goods.

    • Proven track record of controlling and reducing external spend whilst developing a robust supplier base.

    • Fully conversant with modern procurement and purchasing techniques.

    • Experience of outsourcing to low-cost countries would be an advantage.

    • Representing meetings and presenting Purchasing performance achievements

    • Management and coordination of purchasing activities with relation to Cost, Delivery and Quality performance.

    • Coordinating and managing with Quality personnel, resolutions to Supplier Quality concerns, ensuring timely and effective containment and long-term resolution of each concern

    • Mentoring new starters, providing 'on the job' training to existing team members, and ensuring that the team is supported in their day-to-day work activities.
