Position Summary:
A senior trade analyst combines expertise in international logistics and business, developed through education and experience, to ensure Swagelok’s compliance with trade regulations. This role requires extensive knowledge of imports, customs regulations, free trade agreements, and global export rules to evaluate, educate, and implement policy and process improvements. The analyst collaborates with customs authorities as needed, supporting international facilities and distributors.
This role will require proficiency in creating and analyzing large datasets and creating insightful visualizations using tools like Excel or Power BI to inform decision-making in this space.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Investigates both U.S. and non-U.S. regulations as needed. Focus on import compliance management related to product classification, valuation of product, country of origin and Free Trade Agreements. Integrates Swagelok’s import/export compliance program into standard work across departments and company policies. Assists in record keeping requirements for compliance. Provides training and guidance to internal and distributor personnel to ensure import/export compliance within laws and regulations.
Defines future business processes for improvements/changes to ensure compliance with the appropriate federal or foreign regulations.
• Create audit plans and complete compliance audits. Focus on all applicable federal statutes & regulations, as well as company policies and procedures and provide audit report and action plan to upper management.
• Facilitates and manages application of customs regulations with management, legal and Finance and leads process improvements . This includes valuation methods, first sale methodology, manufacturing assists, responses to U.S. and foreign Customs audits, providing expertise to formulate business decisions.
• Creates and manages the methodology for Swagelok to determine Country of Origin and origin product marking for all product lines. Collaborates with manufacturing and engineering on Country of Origin and product marking requirements. Manages record keeping pursuant to Customs regulations for County of Origin and product marking.
• Ensures Swagelok’s applicable standard work across departments company policies is compliant to federal trade regulations. Provides training and guidance to internal associates, distributor service personnel and sales to ensure import/export compliance within laws and regulations. Investigates both U.S. and non-U.S. regulations as needed. Focus on export control management for products, technology, services and information. Works with managed legal counsel, in-house counsel as needed to confirm interpretations, legal requirements, and proposed business decisions.
• Identifies and addresses import/export compliance issues as they arise in Swagelok operations. Works and escalates as necessary with all Swagelok stakeholders to resolve import/export compliance issues to safeguard company compliance.
• Manages Swagelok’s export licenses with the BIS, including but not limited to: application processing, deemed export management, communication with distributor personnel, product classification requests, order reviews, BIS license inquiries and BIS audits.
• Works with Finance to ensure proper payment to Customs authorities, import tax reporting and audit findings are properly reported and acted upon.
• Gathers trade-related data from various sources, such as customs reports, logistics systems, and SAP data to model trends and forecast impacts to the business.
• Able to independently extract and interpret data and complete complex ad hoc analyses. Initiates further analysis and recommendations based on findings.
• Maintains up to date on the changing regulatory environment of international trade and customs regulations of the U.S. and other countries Swagelok conducts business in.

• Logistics support
o Resolves logistics supplier management issues as needed to support clearance and delivery to customers, dealing with distributors, brokers, carriers, government officials etc. as needed.
o Using international compliance knowledge, provides analysis and solutions for projects regarding areas or improvements, identifying total landed costs, cost reductions, network analysis, acquisition, distributed product supply chains, new product introductions, continuous replenishment, international consignment, and new distributor locations, etc.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Required: 7+ years of relevant work experience with a minimum of 3+ years of supply chain/logistics positions or auditing and compliance positions and a bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Operations, or supply chain.
Demonstrates the initiative to build knowledge, organizational and business awareness Ability to multi-task, work in teams and use multiple systems and processes to handle changing requirements.
Skills/Knowledge:
• Good understanding of theories, practices, and procedures related to logistics/supply chain management and international trade
• Solid understanding of costs and services associated with international logistics and compliance
• Advance proficiency in analytical tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, PowerBI
• Effective storytelling with data to translate findings into clear, compelling narratives.
• Learning agility ; adjusts plans based on new information
• Good problem solving, written, verbal, and presentation skills
• • Good communication skills for interaction with external legal counsel, suppliers, third party software providers, and various government agencies on Customs issues
• Very good understanding of U.S. import regulations, product classification and overseas import regulations
