The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
_JOB SUMMARY_** **:
Performs responsible professional services as the Regional Dental Director. Services involve providing general direct dental care for the offender population of correctional facilities as well as providing professional and administrative management of facility dental services for the facilities in the Region to ensure conformance with University procedures and Health Services policies. Works under the general supervision of the Dental Director with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent judgement. Participates as a member of the Regional Management Team to promote the Correctional Managed Care mission. May be required to provide dental services on multiple facilities.
_ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS_** **:
+ Provides direct dental diagnostic and treatment services to patients including preventive, periodontic, restorative, endodontic, minor oral surgical and exodontic, and prosthodontic services.
+ Provides guidance and supervision to correctional dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants in the performance of direct and indirect patient care services.
+ Coordinates dental clinic operations with other departments and staff.
+ Performs documentation in dental health records; establishes and maintains an effective clinic patient scheduling system; provides referrals; ensures maintenance of records on dental clinic operations within the region and prepares related reports as directed including Quality Improvement/Quality Management reports.
+ Coordinates and participates in patient education programs and services; provides consultation, guidance, and in-service education to other Health Services staff.
+ Works with other Regional Management Team members to ensure an efficient healthcare delivery system is maintained.
+ Participates with Dental Director and other Regional Dental Directors as needed to promote the Dental Services mission.
+ Performs a variety of duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
+ May be required to provide dental services on multiple facilities.
+ Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure established for department.
+ Performs related duties as assigned.
_KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES_** **:
+ Knowledge of current methods, practices, procedures, and techniques of providing quality diagnostic and treatment services in the categories of preventive, periodontic, restorative, endodontic, minor oral surgical and exodontic, and prosthodontic services.
+ Skill in the supervision and provision of quality diagnostic and treatment services as described.
+ Skill in documentation of dental health records, maintenance of accurate records related to services provided, and preparation of related reports utilizing currently accepted methods including the Electronic Medical Record.
+ Skill in providing guidance and technical supervision to dental staff.
+ Skill in providing patient education services.
+ Skill in coordinating dental clinic operations and in providing liaison with other departments and staff.
_EQUIPMENT_** **:
Standard dental equipment.
_WORK ENVIRONMENT_** **:
Work location to be determined at time of appointment. Located within the confines of a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center.
Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.
_REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE_** **:
+ Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD).
+ Two (2) years of general clinical practice experience.
The following licensure and certification must be maintained at all times:
+ Current license to practice dentistry in the state of Texas.
+ Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) controlled substance registration certificate.
+ Current certification in Basic Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BLS-HP).
_PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE_** **:
+ Two (2) additional years of experience; at least one (1) year full-time work experience with UTMB Correctional Managed care preferred, and at least one (1) year of responsible full-time wage earning work experience in the supervision and administration of a dental office in military, public health or institutional dentistry.
Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work experience.
