Technical Supervisor - Specialty Department
Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty Center (SOVSC), located in Central Point, Oregon, is the premier 24/7 Specialty + Emergency veterinary hospital serving a 250-mile radius. We offer advanced Emergency, Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Urgent Care services including high flow oxygen therapy, chemotherapy, and complex surgical procedures.

Position Summary
The Technical Supervisor oversees daily operations in specialty services, including but not limited to Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Laboratory departments. This hybrid role combines clinical work with leadership duties, ensuring smooth workflows, team development, and department efficiency. The supervisor collaborates closely with the Technical Manager, HR, and hospital leadership on staffing, training, and performance management.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Operational Oversight
• Perform duties expected of a Certified Veterinary Technician and/or Veterinary Assistant.
• Oversee daily workflows in assigned departments.
• Manage staffing schedules and assist with coverage as needed.
• Support inventory, ordering, and supply management.
• Approve PTO, CE, and time-off requests.
• Address equipment issues and escalate as needed.
Leadership & Team Management
• Directly supervise CVTs and Veterinary Assistants.
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, and team development.
• Participate in reviews, coaching, and corrective actions.
• Monitor attendance and punctuality.
• Lead team meetings and training sessions.
• Uphold hospital policies and protocols.
• Foster a collaborative, respectful culture.
Communication & Coordination
• Act as liaison between departments and leadership.
• Communicate department updates and concerns clearly and timely.
• Support equipment purchasing and staff training on new tools.
• Participate in supervisor and leadership meetings.
Skills & Qualifications
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Empathetic, accountable, and professional leadership.
• Experience with Smartflow, EzyVet, Microsoft Word/Excel.
• Knowledge of inventory and scheduling systems.
Education & Experience
• Minimum 3 years in a veterinary hospital required.
• Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• CVT certification preferred, not required.
Schedule & Availability
• 3–4 clinical shifts + 1 admin shift per week.
• Flexible options: 4x10 or 5x8-hour shifts.
• Weekend availability required.
• Must attend scheduled leadership meetings.
Working Conditions
• Typical specialty/emergency hospital environment.
• Moderate to high noise levels.
• Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, lifting up to 40 lbs independently.
• Occasional restraint of animals over 100 lbs (with support).
• Exposure to infectious diseases, aggressive animals, hazardous meds.
• Use of PPE required: safety glasses, lead gowns/gloves, nitrile gloves.
