Overview:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented System Administrator for a contract opportunity in San Diego, CA. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing the organization's IT infrastructure, ensuring systems run smoothly and securely. The ideal candidate will have expertise in server management, virtualization, and troubleshooting, along with strong communication skills to support end-users and collaborate with IT teams. Key Responsibilities:
+ System Maintenance: Install, configure, and maintain servers, operating systems, and applications to ensure optimal system performance.
+ Infrastructure Management: Monitor and manage IT infrastructure, including physical and virtual servers, storage solutions, and networks.
+ Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve hardware, software, and system issues in a timely and efficient manner.
+ User Support: Collaborate with help desk teams to support end-users with system access, permissions, and troubleshooting needs.
+ Backup and Recovery: Implement and manage system backup procedures and disaster recovery plans to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
+ Security Compliance: Apply security protocols, including patches, updates, antivirus software, and firewalls, to protect systems against vulnerabilities.
+ Documentation: Maintain technical documentation for system configurations, maintenance activities, and IT standards of practice.
+ Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional IT teams, including network engineers and developers, to support critical projects and ensure seamless integration.
+ Performance Optimization: Monitor system performance metrics and recommend improvements to maximize efficiency and reliability.
Requirements
Required Skills and Qualifications:
+ Proven experience as a System Administrator, with at least 3–5 years of hands-on expertise managing server environments.
+ Strong knowledge of operating systems (Windows Server, Linux, macOS) and virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
+ Familiarity with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS, and other server infrastructure tools.
+ Experience with backup tools (e.g., Veeam, Commvault) and disaster recovery solutions.
+ Basic knowledge of networking concepts, including TCP/IP and VPN configurations.
+ Ability to implement security patches and updates to mitigate risks in server environments.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Certifications such as Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), or CompTIA Server+.
+ Experience with enterprise cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
+ Familiarity with automation tools like PowerShell or Bash scripting for process simplification.
+ Knowledge of ITIL framework best practices.
