Description We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead and oversee all accounting operations within our organization based in Cleveland, Ohio. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, maintaining control systems to safeguard company assets, and providing insightful financial analysis. As a key member of the leadership team, you will guide the accounting staff while collaborating closely with senior executives and department leaders to support organizational goals.
Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage the accounting department, overseeing functions such as general accounting, accounts receivable, revenue recognition, cash management, accounts payable, and payroll.
• Oversee the month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and related reports.
• Establish and maintain robust accounting systems, policies, and procedures to uphold accuracy and compliance.
• Analyze and report financial data, including budgets and forecasts, and present key findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
• Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements across all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems.
• Develop and enforce strong internal controls and safeguards to protect organizational assets.
• Manage all aspects of financial, project, and grant accounting, ensuring alignment with grant and program budgets throughout funding periods.
• Recruit, mentor, and develop accounting staff, providing training and growth opportunities to enhance team performance.
• Prepare comprehensive financial reports for government entities, corporate stakeholders, and foundation partners.
• Create and document standard operating procedures and performance measures to align with the company’s strategic objectives. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.
• CPA certification or a Master’s degree is highly preferred.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and financial experience, including at least 7 years in a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory compliance.
• Proven experience in non-profit or grant accounting is strongly preferred.
• Expertise in managing month-end close processes and preparing financial statements.
• Ability to oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
