    **Pay Range:** $92.38 - $155.20 per hour

    Summary:

    The Associate Vice President of Pharmacy – Ambulatory Pharmacy Services is a key leadership position, reporting to the Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO). This role provides strategic and operational oversight of pharmacy services in ambulatory settings across RUSH Health. This role ensures delivery of high quality, safe, and cost-effective medication management, drives clinical excellence, and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance patient care outcomes. This role collaborates with health system leadership and the pharmacy team(s) to optimize medication use, enhance patient outcomes, and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations. The role is responsible to achieve administrative, clinical, and leadership responsibilities to support RUSH Health’s mission and goals.

    Required Job Qualifications:

    • Licensure: Registered pharmacist, Licensed or eligible for licensure in Illinois within 6 months of hire

    • Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution.

    • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in pharmacy, with at least 7 years in an ambulatory hospital or retail/specialty pharmacy management.

    • Skills:

    o Demonstrated success in overseeing ambulatory pharmacy operations across multiple sites within a health system.

    o Exceptional leadership and organizational skills to manage complex, multi-site operations and diverse teams.

    o Expertise in ambulatory pharmacy operations, clinical protocols, and regulatory compliance.

    o Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, cost management, and revenue optimization.

    o Proficiency with pharmacy information systems and automated technologies.

    o Excellent communication and collaboration skills to engage with clinical and administrative stakeholders.

    Preferred Job Qualifications:

    • Education: Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration (MBA), or related field preferred.

    • Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in pharmacy, with at least 10 years in ambulatory pharmacy management.

    Physical Demands:

    • Ability to travel between multiple hospital locations as required.

    • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting, with occasional computer work for extended durations.

    • May require lifting to 20 pounds (e.g., inventory handling).

    • Work in a high-pressure, challenging environment with potential for on-call responsibilities to address urgent operational or clinical issues.

    Responsibilities:

    The System Ambulatory Pharmacy Services Leader is responsible for the strategic and operational leader of ambulatory pharmacy services across RUSH Health.

     

    1. Serves as the secretary for Health Delivery Management an entity owned***

    2. Responsible for strategy development and implementation, goal setting and execution for ambulatory pharmacy across RUSH Health that aligns with health system’s goals for patient care, safety, and operational excellence.

    3. Responsible for development and implementation of strategies focused on service expansion and programs that provide high quality patient outcomes and a positive financial return.

    4. Responsible for building and maintaining a high performing team to serve customers across RUSH Health.

    5. Responsible for the development and implementation of ambulatory pharmacy leveraging technology and partnering with third-party companies to earn access to unique services, technologies, and products to advance the practice and compliance of pharmacy.

    6. Serve as the primary business owner of the health systems ambulatory pharmacy services, including but not limited to medication dispensing, clinical pharmacy services, sterile compounding, and drug distribution systems across RUSH ambulatory locations. This leader is responsible to ensure adequate staffing, resource allocation, and workflow efficiency to support patient care demands.

    7. Collaborate with various business units, cross functional teams and key stakeholders to ensure the on-time, accurate and on-budget implementation delivery and business value realization department initiatives.

    8. Demonstrates high-functioning project management and change management methodologies.

    9. Routinely presents key information and update to RUSH senior executives, customers, manufacturers, and network providers. Provide insight and support to all RUSH stakeholders on any questions or issues that may arise.

    10. Represent the institution(s) at appropriate regional and national meetings.

    11. Responsible for establishing and maintaining key performance indicators for each functional area of oversight.

    12. Partner with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to integrate pharmacy services into patient care protocols and treatment plans.

    13. Serve as a key member of health system committees, such as Pharmacy and Therapeutics and Quality committees

    14. Oversee the implementation and optimization of pharmacy technologies, including electronic health records (EHRs), automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis), and smart infusion pumps.

    15. Utilize data analytics to monitor medication use patterns, improve clinical decision-making, and support evidence-based practices.

    16. Explore innovative solutions, such as AI-driven tools or robotics, to enhance pharmacy efficiency and patient safety.

    17. Accountable for compliance with federal, state and local regulations, professional associations and accrediting bodies relating to specific areas of responsibility and participate in efforts to ensure the presence of the appropriate patient-care certifications and recognitions for ambulatory pharmacy services.

    18. Oversee adherence to USP 795, 797 and 800 standards for sterile compounding and hazardous drug handling.

    19. Lead quality improvement efforts to enhance medication safety, reduce adverse drug events, improve clinical outcomes, and demonstrate continuous process improvement

    20. Develop a talented, diverse, and highly effective team. This involves sophisticated interpersonal skills and mature leadership talent.

    21. Motivate teams of directors, managers, supervisors, coordinators, pharmacists, technicians, liaisons, and other staff to exceed goals and foster high patient and provider satisfaction.

    22. Recruit, train, and mentor pharmacy directors and other leaders across ambulatory pharmacy locations.

    23. Promote a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and accountability within the pharmacy team.

    24. Support staff development through continuing education, certification opportunities, and performance evaluations.

    25. Responsible for the operational and capital budget for ambulatory care pharmacy services activities.

    26. Develop and manage budgets for ambulatory care pharmacy services, balancing cost containment with quality care delivery. Monitor financial performance metrics, such as drug spend, labor costs, and reimbursement rates, implementing strategies to optimize fiscal outcomes.

    27. Collaborate with finance and procurement teams to negotiate contracts with pharmaceutical suppliers and group purchasing organizations (GPOs).

    28. Create and foster a culture that demonstrates value on an engaged team driven to provide excellent patient care, focused on continually improving the customer experience, including a strong focus on communication, transparency, and collaboration.

    29. Leverage expertise in healthcare data to surface unique insights and quality metrics to help customers understand program(s) impact.

    30. Maintain and distribute information promoting pharmacy services. Partners with marketing to implement strategies to grow awareness of pharmacy service offerings.
