Overview
The **Medical Assistant (Pediatric)** assists patients/families throughout their outpatient appointment pleasantly and professionally. The Medical Assistant will also assist healthcare professionals with patient care to meet patients’ needs and provide efficient patient flow.
Hours are Monday-Friday 8:30 am-5:00 pm.

Responsibilities
+ Greet patients by name (HIPAA compliant); identify self and explain your role.
+ Initiates patient intake process. Ensures medical records are ready the day prior for scheduled patient visit. Cleans and prepares exam rooms for patient/family, greets and escorts patient/family to exam room.
+ Interviews patients/families for medication history ensuring accuracy of medications, doses, updates pharmacy information, updates Primary Care information, and administers pre visit questionnaires. Obtains height, weight, blood pressure, and temperature, if requested. Explains visit process.
+ If new patient, records patients medications (diabetes and not diabetes related) in medication list.
+ Records exam room assignments and other requested information based on departmental procedures.
+ Perform finger sticks and phlebotomy and collect appropriate specimensas directed by healthcare professionals.
+ Communicate with the providers and team of any patient whose vital signs, blood sugars and/or patient symptoms that are not within normal values.Initiates emergency protocol, as needed.
+ Properly identify patient and label all specimens/tubes appropriately with three check accuracy and Central Workup Four Point Check.
+ Appropriately label and download patient meters/pumps and print reports whenever needed.
+ Ensures physicians/healthcare professionals complete consultation and requisition forms as needed.
+ Cleans and restocks exam rooms and supply closet and checks medical supplies. Maintains refrigerator temperature log, calibrate stadiometer and scale daily. Manages ordering of clinic supplies.
+ Participates in the daily assigning of patients and staff to exam rooms to facilitate patient flow.
+ Completes prior authorization under the supervision of healthcare provider.
+ Assist in training new personnel, as appropriate.
+ Assist providers and patients with scheduling of appointments, as appropriate.
+ Other duties as assigned
**Telehealth Duties** :
+ Patient Reminders:
+ Send reminder email to patients 2 days before the appointment instructing them to email their glucose numbers via telehealth prep email.
+ Call patients 1 day before the appointment instructing them to either upload their devices to our cloud-based platforms (T-Connect, CareLink, Glooko, Clarity or LibreView) or email their glucose numbers to telehealth prep.
+ Download remaining data for patients who have yet to upload devices day of the appointment
+ Device Downloads:
+ Assist patients with uploading their devices when the patient is unable to complete this on their own.
+ Frequently (every 15-20 minutes) monitor Telehealth emails (20-30 emails/day and Telehealth Prep Inbox, which may often need to be triaged by the Medical Assistant
+ Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
+ High School diploma
+ Graduate of an accredited medical assistant or phlebotomy program or equivalent training and or experience
+ Minimum 1 year of Pediatric phlebotomy/medical assistant experience preferred
+ Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) -American Heart Association (AHA)- certified preferred
+ American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) phlebotomylicense or equivalent preferred
+ Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certification in Medical Assisting (CMA) - must have passed an exam through one of the following organizationspreferred:
+ American Association for Medical Assistants (AAMA)
+ American Medical Technologists (AMT)
+ National Healthcare Association (NHA)
+ National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
+ New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC)
+ Proficient computer skills
+ Effective organizational and interpersonal skills to anticipate and react to the needs of patients and medical staff
+ Stellar customer service
+ Ability to function in fast paced, diversified work environment
+ Excellent communication skills
