We are searching for a team member who is highly motivated and diligent in performing personnel or administrative work.
Essential Job Functions
Acts or assists in acting as a Departmental source of human resource or administrative knowledge, interprets personnel policies, and prepares appropriate reports.
Participates in the full cycle of wage and benefit administration processing tasks.
Participates in processing newly hired or outgoing employees including preparing incoming/outgoing reports, transfers, and change of statuses; determining step placement and anniversary dates; administering loyalty oaths; and conducting new employee orientations.
Disseminates information to employees or the public regarding rights; compensation; benefits; responsibilities; Departmental policies, procedures, and regulations; recruitment needs; Civil Service procedures; and salary ordinance information.
Maintains a system of personnel files and records including employee work histories, evaluations and appraisals, status changes, and disciplinary actions.
Participates or assists in the examination administration process including securing facilities, examiners, and interviewers; conducting interviews; monitoring and proctoring examinations for lower-level clerical positions; and ensuring test security.
Obtains eligible lists, certifications, and other information pertaining to the recruitment, testing, and selecting of applicants.
Participates in the research, analysis, and resolution of less-difficult human resource and administrative problems, as required.
Participates in preliminary investigations of employment histories, situations involving police and police records, disciplinary actions, and employee grievances, as required.
Performs data entry and retrieval.
Learns to interpret and apply provisions of the Administrative Code, Salary Ordinance, Departmental Policy and Procedures Manual, and the Civil Service Rules.

OPTION A: Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree.*

LICENSE
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS
Physical Class II – Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE
As part of this application process, applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire. The questionnaire contains a pre-investigative questionnaire which will be applied as part of the background investigation process to ensure applicants meet the standards set forth by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Applicants who fail the pre-investigative questionnaire will be disqualified and will have to wait three (3) months from the date of the disqualification in order to reapply.

EXAMINATION CONTENT
This examination will consist of two (2) parts:
PART I
A computerized multiple-choice test worth 75% assessing: Checking for Errors, Mathematical Reasoning and Data Interpretation, Written Communication, Reading Comprehension, and Office Software/Suite.
APPLICANTS WHO ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON PART I WILL BE INVITED TO PART II.
PART II
A computerized multiple-choice test worth 25% assessing: Customer Service, Attention to Detail, Clerical Knowledge, Computer Skills, Multitasking / Time Management, Teamwork, Interpersonal Skills, Written Communication Skills and Verbal Communication Skills.
APPLICANTS ARE REQUIRED TO ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON EACH WEIGHTED PART OF THE EXAMINATION IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST.
MULTIPLE-CHOICE TEST IS NOT REVIEWABLE BY APPLICANTS PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.
TRANSFER OF TEST COMPONENTS
If you have taken identical components recently for other exams, your responses may be automatically transferred to this examination. This exam contains test components that might be used on future exams, and your responses could be transferred to that exam.
Applicants who are applying concurrently for Operations Assistant I, Sheriff, Exam No. J1228M will take the computerized multiple-choice test one time. The resulting score will be transferred to all applicable examinations for which you applied.
TESTING ACCOMMODATION

TEST PREPARATION

VETERAN'S CREDIT
If you are a veteran, you may be eligible for veteran's credit, which is an additional 10% of the total points added to a passing score. ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months from the date of promulgation.
The list of successful candidates created from this exam will be used to fill vacancies within the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Personnel Command, Personnel Administration Bureau.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE A THOROUGH BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, INCLUDING FINGERPRINT SEARCH.
