Position: Grants and Community Relations Manager
The Grants and Community Relations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of foundation, governmental, legislative, community and corporate support for Outreach. This includes grant research, proposal development, grant reporting, and relationship management with current and prospective institutional and legislative supporters. The position reports to and collaborates closely with the Vice President for Development and Communications.
Key Responsibilities:
Research and Development
+ Identify potential funding sources that align with Outreach’s priorities.
+ Draft and submit competitive proposals to public and private foundations, corporations, government agencies, and individual legislators.
+ Collaborate with Outreach’s executive team and departments to identify agency-wide and program-specific priorities.
+ Coordinate proposal development with Outreach staff.
+ Communicate as needed with potential and current funders.
+ Maintain and update a contact list of state, county, city, and town legislators in areas where Outreach operates.
+ Manage necessary registrations (e.g., Grants.gov, SAM.gov, SFS.ny.gov).
+ Develop facts sheets and program materials for media packets and legislator briefings
Relationship Building
+ Research and engage with potential foundation, corporate, and government funders to support various programs, services, organizational development, capital projects, and other special initiatives.
+ Build and nurture relationships with funders, state, county, and local legislators, and community partners, including coordinating stewardship efforts, site visits, and program updates.
+ Maintain regular communication with Outreach’s executive staff to share knowledge about grant opportunities and funding trends and identify areas for funding support
+ Work with special events team to cultivate and identify funding opportunities
Grants Management
+ Complete and submit required reports and paperwork to funders.
+ Work with finance staff to track fund disbursements and develop financial reports.
+ Train program and site leadership on grant reporting requirements and establish an information-sharing structure to meet funding objectives.
+ Maintain organized records of grant-related materials, including funder research, application deadlines, reporting schedules, and other key information.
+ Create and maintain records for grant and legislative requests in Raiser’s Edge NXT.
Skills and Experience
To succeed in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications:
+ Education: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required.
+ Experience: 3-5 years of experience in grant writing and grants management, with a proven track record of success in grant fundraising. Experience with federal and state grants, as well as legislative requests at the local and state levels, is preferred.
+ Knowledge: Ability to read and interpret complex proposal application guidelines, write persuasive data-driven proposals and reports, and conduct thorough research.
+ Skills: Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; strong attention to detail; highly organized; able to deliver high-quality work within deadlines.
+ Technology: Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required. Experience with CRM platforms, particularly Raiser’s Edge NXT and Candid, is a plus.

Compensation:
This is a full-time, exempt position. The salary range for this position is $80,000, depending on the level of experience. Benefits for Outreach staff include comprehensive health insurance and coverage (including dental and vision), retirement plan with employer matching contribution, paid time off including generous vacation days plus most major holidays off as well as sick and personal days.
Position Status
This is a full-time exempt position. Exempt employees are defined as employees who, based on duties performed and manner of compensation, shall be exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) minimum wage and overtime provisions. Exempt employees are salaried and expected to work any hours above and beyond their regular schedule necessary to ensure completion of all tasks in a timely manner. This position may require additional hour as needed in response to program need, which included rotating weekend work.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Must have the ability to travel among assigned sites as needed. There may be long periods of standing, sitting, and computer usage.
