    The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

     

    The Ground Systems Support (GSS) organization is looking for a Structural Paint Technician for the Launch Equipment Shop (LES) who supports multiple programs for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) at Kennedy Space Center. The candidate will provide paint shop support applying various coatings on multiple types of surfaces. The candidate will also support working in graphics sign fabrication using vinyl printing, cutting equipment, and associated software. A background in complex surface preparation and primer, coating, and paint application along with a background in graphic design fabrication is highly desirable.

    THIS IS A REPRESENTED POSITION

    Responsibilities

    + Perform quality work in the application of commercial paints, coatings, and cable potting/molding.

    + Create stencils and vinyl graphics from engineering products.

    + Coating application with HVLP application (high volume low pressure)

    + Coating application of common structural coatings such as Zinc, Epoxy, Polyurethane

    + Perform chemical (Alodine) processing on different types of aluminum.

    + Interpret engineering drawings, sketches, work instructions, and/or work with engineering, to carry out work assignments with minimal oversight.

    + Operate forklift and man-lift equipment in the performance of work assignments as required.

     

    Qualifications - External

     

    High School Diploma or equivalent and technical training in the applicable area of expertise and three years related experience.

     

    + Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment

    + Demonstrate advanced communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate work status, resolve technical issues, assist in troubleshooting, and identifying solutions to ensure continuation of work to meet demanding schedules.

    + Must be able to coordinate work between multiple project disciplines

    + Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects without missing deadlines or sacrificing accuracy

    + Must be self-motivated, demonstrate initiative, and be able to work in dynamic environments

    + Must be able to work independently or with minimal supervision

    + Good written and verbal communication skills for interfacing required for interfacing with management and customers (internal and external)

    + Familiar with basic mechanical equipment and systems.

    + Familiar with paint application systems and products

    + Adept in graphics programs such as CorelDRAW to create prints and designs.

    + Ability to build positive/effective relationships with clients and co-workers and demonstrates focus on satisfying both internal and external customer requirements

    + Accepts responsibility for safety of yourself and others.

    Essential Functions

    Physical Requirements

    + Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.

    + Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.

    Work Environment

    + All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.

    + Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.

    + Position requires daily individual to travel to different areas on site.

    + Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.

    Equipment and Machines

    + Operate computer terminals, personal computers, and related computer peripheral equipment to maintain/adjust database logs and records, print documents and record work performance.

    + Personal computer, scanner, copy machine, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and other office equipment including desk supplies.

    Attendance

    + Work assignments are normally 8 hours shifts, 5 consecutive days per week.

    + Must be dependable and punctual.

    + Occasional overtime, sometimes with short notice, is required to meet demanding schedule

    Other Essential Functions

    + If offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder of the United States is required.

    + Needs to have clear, concise, and accurate communication skills.

    + Must have ability to work well with office staff and customer representatives.

    + Government security clearance may be required in the future.

    + Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.

    + Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

    + Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.

    + Must pass a federal background investigation.

    + Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.
