    The Rural HEALTH Research Lab in the Department of Family, Youth and Community Sciences, UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate (RA). The RA is responsible for designing, managing, and conducting scientific research on overweight/obesity and other chronic cardiometabolic conditions. Rural HEALTH lab is an interdisciplinary and dynamic group of students and staff researching multilevel factors influencing individual and population health outcomes, particularly among rural adults. The RA will be expected to work collaboratively with the research team to collect and analyze data, prepare manuscripts for publication, and participate at state and national level meetings. Also, RA duties will involve supervision and training of volunteers, graduate students, undergraduates, and student workers, and other related duties as required.

     

    Postdoctoral employment is temporary and is normally limited to an individual who will be involved in full-time research or scholarship at the University. Employment as a Postdoctoral Research Associate is viewed as training and is preparatory for a full-time academic or research career.

     

    The anticipated start date is July 1, 2025.

UF/IFAS employs nearly 4,500 people, which includes approximately 990 salaried faculty and 1,400 permanent support personnel located in Gainesville and throughout the state. IFAS, one of the nation’s largest agricultural and natural resources research and education organizations, is administered by a Vice President and four deans: the Dean of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the Dean for Extension and Director of the Florida Cooperative Extension Service, the Dean for Research and Director of the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, and the Dean for the College of Veterinary Medicine. UF/IFAS also engages in cooperative work with Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.

    Required Qualifications:

    Applicants must have a Ph.D. (foreign equivalent acceptable) in sociology, public health, health education and behavior, psychology, or a closely related field. Candidates that will complete all Ph.D. requirements by June 15, 2025 are also welcome to apply. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system.     Preferred:

    Applicants should have good communication, problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, and the ability to work flexible hours. A behavioral scientist with community-engaged research experience and project management experience is preferred. Experience with qualitative and quantitative data analysis is a plus. Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a strong command of grammar and style is also preferred.
