Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures (JHTV) supports the commercialization of university technology through technology licensing, the development of sponsored research agreements, and venture creation. We serve as business advisors to investigators at all ten schools of the university whose research has commercial potential. Our resources include intellectual property (IP) protection, technology analysis, marketing and licensing support, translational and venture funding support, physical space through our FastForward innovation hubs, and professional services such as mentorship, pro bono legal and accounting services, and educational programming.
We are seeking a **_Portfolio Operations Manager_** who will play a pivotal role in supporting, professionalizing, and expanding important initiatives including the JHTV Commercialization Academy, Graduate Fellowship for Entrepreneurship in Medicine (GEM), Translational Funds, and JHTV FastForward Portfolio Management.
Reporting to the Director Portfolio Operations, the Portfolio Operations Manager will leverage their scientific acumen, operational expertise, and familiarity with the Johns Hopkins graduate student experience to optimize workflows, integrate innovative practices, and ensure excellence across the team’s portfolio of initiatives.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
_Graduate Fellowship for Entrepreneurship in Medicine (GEM)_
+ Source and confirm relevant alumni or external speakers for workshops, lunch-and-learns, and travel logistics based on research experience and scientific knowledge of the innovation ecosystem.
+ Schedule and organize logistics for GEM fellows, workshops, and events, leveraging the understanding of PhD scheduling demands and Hopkins-specific cultural sensitivities.
+ Provide operational support for the application, interview, and selection process for new GEM Fellows.
+ Broadly manage the program’s operations, including event coordination, room reservations, food orders, reimbursement processes, and travel planning.
+ Collect, analyze, and visualize data to evaluate program effectiveness and identify opportunities for growth.
_Commercialization Academy_
+ Oversee day-to-day operations of fellows and proactively address bottlenecks or workflow issues.
+ Lead initiatives to professionalize and optimize work product (e.g., re-structuring evaluation documentation, quality control).
+ Standardize hiring dates, promotional materials, and related processes, ensuring quality and consistency while broadly marketing the program.
+ Support fellows in creating high-quality technology marketing materials and analyze performance data to refine marketing strategies.
+ Integrate fellows’ output into FastForward portfolio management and optimize processes for seamless collaboration.
+ Maintain operational support for monthly meetings and event scheduling, ensuring smooth execution.
+ Collect, analyze, and visualize operational data related to program outcomes.
_Translational Funds_
+ Cohen Translational Engineering Fund & Thalheimer Fund.
+ Support the finalist project selection process through review discussions.
+ Manage the application process, including handling reviewer NDAs, matching applications to reviewers based on scientific expertise, and facilitating reviewer feedback.
+ Track and follow up with fund winners, ensuring timely meetings and progress updates.
+ Analyze key data points, including reviewer scores and applicant outcomes, to assess fund impact and predictive quality of project evaluations.
_President’s Innovation Award_
+ Assist in marketing, nominations, and operationalizing award processes.
+ Support planning for the Celebration of Innovation in Medicine and ensure tracking of award-winner outcomes.
_Portfolio Operations_
+ Assist in facilitating Salesforce migration and integrating portfolio management processes seamlessly across programs.
+ Track, collect, organize, analyze, and visualize operational data to ensure program goals are met effectively.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
+ Strong understanding of the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem (e.g., venture capital (VC), venture philanthropy, federal and state funding mecha-nisms, local innovation initiatives, etc.).
+ Demonstrated skills in market research, resource allocation, and operational support.
+ Ability to operate with professionalism, particularly when engaging with high-profile speakers, guests, and stakeholders.
+ Comfort with ambiguity; proactive problem-solving and initiative-taking.
+ Exceptional organizational skills with experience in data collection, analysis, and visualization tools.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Advanced Degree required in a related field such as science or engineering or a combination of an MBA and related experience in a scientific or academic setting.
+ Four (4) years related experience, including management experience.
+ Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
+ U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident required due to Federal Export Controls.
+ PhD in a biomedical field with >1 year of research experience.
+ Prior experience in or deep understanding of the Johns Hopkins graduate student experience.

Starting Salary Range: $62,900 - $86,500 - $110,100 Annually ($85,000 targeted, Commensurate w/exp.)

The listed salary range represents the minimum and maximum Johns Hopkins University offers for this position, based on a good faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, education, and internal equity. Not all candidates will qualify for the highest salary in the range.
