The Position
Positions in this series supervise professional engineering associates, technical engineering staff, and/or engineering students; direct activities of assigned staff, organize personnel, equipment and materials, and delegate assignments; evaluate the performance of employees according to established policies and work performance standards; ensure accurate and timely completion of work assignments; and provide guidance and training.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This Staff 2 A.E. Underfill position serves as a Supervisor in the Signals, Lighting, and ITS (SLI) section in the Traffic Operations Division of NDOT, overseeing the SLI Design Team. The SLI section is responsible for the development of signals, lighting and ITS plans, specification and estimates, and coordinates signal, lighting, and ITS projects with other divisions and outside agencies. This position is responsible for supervising, training, and assisting Signals, Lighting and ITS (SLI) team members during the development of contract plans, schedules, estimates, and special provisions. This includes collaborating with team members and consultants during the preparation, review, and approval of designs, estimates and special provisions and construction material submittals. This position ensures that projects are designed to meet established state and federal guidelines, policies, and standards, and that all project data is accurate and complete in all SLI collaboration platforms. NOTE: THIS RECRUITMENT WILL BE USED TO UNDERFILL A SUPERVISOR 3, ASSOCIATE ENGINEER. INCUMBENT MAY PROGRESS TO THE NEXT LEVEL AFTER MEETING THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE, AND WITH APPROVAL OF THE APPOINTING AUTHORITY.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field and two years of professional engineering experience; OR certified as an Engineering Intern and two years of professional engineering experience; OR two years of experience comparable to the Staff I, Associate Engineer or the Supervisor I, Associate Engineer level.

Special Requirements
This position requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
