    Position Overview:

    SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a talented and enthusiastic multi-function developer to support the next generation of web portals, data analytic platforms, machine learning workflows to advance the software platforms that will be the bedrock of scientific computing.

     

    The Scientific Computing Services group supports SLAC¿s broad and vibrant scientific program in fundamental physics, with research in cosmic survey science, cosmic microwave background, direct dark matter searches, proton collider physics and neutrino physics, as well as theoretical and computational physics. We are the US data facility for the Rubin observatory, providing unprecedented scale and time resolution of celestial objects; and we also operate the Linear Coherent Light Source providing ultra high resolution imaging - pushing the boundaries of biological and material science.

     

    SLAC invites you to apply for a position as a skilled Senior Software Developer to join our team to interact with users, roadmap new features, and monitor, operate and plan our large systems and scientific services. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the completeness of our software portfolio, and ensuring reliability and efficiency of our platforms. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing growth strategies.

     

    Given the nature of this position, SLAC is open to on-site and hybrid work options.

    Specific Responsibilities Include:

    + Manage and maintain our scientific portals, ensuring high availability and reliability on our in-house kubernetes platform.

    + Monitor the performance and health of our software platforms, proactively identifying and resolving issues.

    + Implement CI/CD and testing frameworks for our software platforms.

    + Design and implement growth strategies for our software portfolio, liaising and working as a product manager.

    + Develop and implement security measures to protect our platforms from unauthorized access and/or data breaches.

    + Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and best practices.

    + Participate in on-call rotations as needed.

    To be successful in this position you will bring:

    + Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field and at least 5 years of experience as a Software Developer.

    + Demonstrated expertise in programming languages and frameworks such as python, javascript, flask, fastapi, react

    + Expert knowledge of microservice technologies and containerization.

    + Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQ, mongodb, redis, kafka.

    + Expert understanding of OIDC and OAuth2.

    + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

    + Proven ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Experience with the administration, performance tuning and scaling of large scale databases.

    + Experience in the DoE lab complex and or scientific/academic environment

    _The expected pay range for this position is $125,000 to $160,555 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs._
