The DFCI Sarcoma Center is seeking a Senior Research Scientist with experience in basic and translational cancer research. The Senior Research Scientist would report to Dr. Suzanne George, MD, who is the Division Chief, Sarcoma Center and Associate Professor in Medicine, Harvard Medical School.
The Senior Research Scientist will be responsible for making contributions to translational and clinical research and enhancing productivity of the Sarcoma Center by providing scientific, facilitative, and operational support to the program. Under the direction of Dr. George, the Senior Research Scientist will assist in the evaluation and organization of collected data, design experiments, coordinate research with labs and core facilities, contribute scientifically to sarcoma research projects, correlative studies, and protocols, write manuscripts, and collaborate on grant applications. In addition to Dr. George, the Senior Research Scientist will work closely with members of the Sarcoma Center leadership, including the Founding Director and Senior Vice President for Experimental Therapeutics, the Director of Clinical Research, the Scientific Director of the David Liposarcoma Research Initiative, and the Administrative Director to facilitate and support the research program of the Sarcoma Center.
This position requires deep background in basic and translational cancer research, strong project management and communication skills, an interest in writing manuscripts and grants, and interaction with multiple faculty and staff members within DFCI and the across the Harvard Medical School community.

This position will be responsible for a wide variety of scientific, operational, and managerial tasks between lab and clinical research teams as noted below:
+ Supports the oversight of translational research projects led by Dr. George to facilitate collaborative research and serve as a liaison between laboratory and clinical research teams at DFCI as well as external collaborators.
+ Collaborates closely with Dr. George to develop, design, and implement new translational research projects, focusing on execution and overall project management to achieve the defined research goals and milestones.
+ Works closely with sarcoma center leadership, including Dr. George, Dr. Demetri, Dr. Solimini, and other team members, to support the translational research program of the Sarcoma Center
+ Brainstorms ideas, leverages scientific and project management skills, and acts in a collaborative fashion with Sarcoma Center faculty, scientists, collaborators, and research team members to facilitate the translational research program. Proactively identifies any barriers to research projects and works with sarcoma center leadership to develop solutions to ensure success.
+ Contributes significantly to study report analyses
+ Assists with drafting manuscripts, grant writing, and reporting.
+ Contributes scientifically and operationally to collaboratively design and write clinical trial correlative studies.
+ Responsible for scheduling and coordinating a monthly translational lab meeting and other program-related research team alliance tasks.
+ Working with sarcoma center leadership and research teams, responsible for organizing data and streamlining the use of research samples collected under banking protocols.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
+ Knowledge of scientific and research principles and methodologies
+ Deep knowledge of basic and translational cancer research
+ Exceptional attention to detail along with strong organizational, time management, and project management skills
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to build connections within and between teams, appropriately represent the vision of involved researchers, and build constructive and effective relationships with a broad and diverse group of colleagues.
+ Strong written, verbal, and creative communication skills, including ability to translate insight into content, develop and write manuscripts, create PowerPoint or written presentations, and develop grant applications.
+ Demonstrated exceptional ability to collaborate and to assist in the resolution of complex issues
+ Outstanding ability to work independently and balance multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
+ Strong ability to work as a member of a team and to help promote collaborative activities
+ Ability to organize meetings for a community of translational researchers
+ Ability to oversee project management, ensure defined deliverables are produced, and overcome barriers and challenges to interdisciplinary research efforts
+ Passion for learning and innovation, ability to set new and reaching goals for themselves and the team with a positive attitude.
+ PhD in scientific/research field required
+ 6 years of cancer-related research experience, with at least 1 year in project and/or lab management required
