Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Coordinate, conduct, and promote a diverse and accessible schedule of group fitness classes and instructional programs for all populations, abilities, and fitness levels.
+ Assist with daily operations of the Health & Fitness Lab, including maintaining a regular schedule for fitness services, including fitness assessments, exercise prescription, body composition assessments, and individual consultations.
+ Directly supervise the fitness center operations and regularly communicate with the Assistant Director, Health & Fitness, about maintenance issues, equipment needs, supplies, and any other relevant information.
+ Oversee the implementation of a preventative maintenance schedule for all fitness center, group fitness, personal training, and Health and Fitness Lab equipment and facilities.
+ Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Graduate Assistant(s) to assist with group fitness, personal training, fitness center, wellness programs, fitness services, and instructional programs.
+ Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all fitness staff?including group fitness instructors, personal trainers, fitness center attendants, lab assistants, equipment technicians, practicum students, and instructional staff?while managing schedules, payroll, and disciplinary matters.
+ Coordinate and conduct fitness programs and events for WKU students.
+ Assist the Assistant Director with the coordination of fitness center and program equipment purchases, installation, inventory, and maintenance.
+ Assist the Assistant Director in developing, coordinating, implementing, and promoting the WellU® student wellness program, Health Education & Promotion, and Hilltopper Nutrition in collaboration with campus partners; serve as a health education resource by providing accurate, up-to-date materials and support to students, faculty, and staff.
+ Assist the Assistant Director with marketing, coordinating, and implementing sexual health outreach initiatives, including the distribution of educational materials, wellness supplies (e.g., condoms, STI prevention resources), presentations, and collaborating with campus and community partners to promote inclusive, evidence-based sexual health education.
Departmental Responsibilities
+ Demonstrate a commitment to providing recreation programs and services to all of the WKU Campus Community, and contribute to an inclusive working and learning environment.
+ Support and align with the mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of Campus Recreation & Wellness.
+ Serve on departmental committees and work teams to accomplish collaborative goals of the department.
+ Fulfill night and weekend responsibilities as needed.
+ Position shall include but is not limited to the duties listed above. May perform other duties assigned to help maintain Campus Recreation & Wellness operations and services.
Job Requirements:
+ Bachelor's degree.
+ At least two (2) years of experience in recreation, athletics, or fitness/wellness programs in higher education (graduate assistantships, undergraduate employment, and internships are acceptable for determining minimum required experience).
+ Group fitness instructor or personal training certification from a nationally recognized fitness organization.
+ At least one (1) year of personnel supervision experience (student staff, graduate assistant, or full-time personnel supervision is acceptable).
Additional Information:
Hourly Rate: $17.44-20.51
