Job Title: Sustainment Engineer – Military Aircraft Maintenance, Product Support & Engineering Analysis
Clearance Level: Secret; Able to gain a TS/SCI Clearance
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly analytical, mathematically skilled Sustainment Engineer preferably with Defense Acquisition University (DAU) accreditation to support military aircraft maintenance, product sustainment, and system lifecycle analysis for the Tactical Air Range Integration Facility (TARIF) Integrated Product Team (IPT).
This role requires a strong mathematical and engineering background, with expertise in statistical modeling, failure analysis, and sustainment optimization. The candidate must have a problem-solving mindset, capable of rapidly assessing complex sustainment issues, formulating data-driven solutions, and clearly documenting findings. Significant travel to DoD training ranges, contractor sites, and field locations is required.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Apply advanced mathematical and statistical modeling (e.g., probability, predictive analytics, regression analysis) to optimize sustainment strategies.
+ Conduct engineering analysis, system reliability assessments, and failure mode evaluations
+ Develop data-driven sustainment strategies for military aircraft, avionics, and mission-critical systems.
+ Perform on-site and remote troubleshooting of sustainment-related engineering issues, ensuring operational readiness.
+ Utilize optimization techniques, machine learning, and statistical tools (Excel VBA) to enhance sustainment efficiency and component reliability.
+ Collaborate closely with field engineers and logisticians to analyze failure trends, performance metrics, and system reliability.
+ Develop decision-support models for lifecycle cost estimation (LCCE), reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), and condition-based maintenance (CBM+).
+ Apply IEEE software engineering standards for sustainment, reliability analysis, and sustainment software tools integration.
+ Ensure compliance with DoD sustainment policies and aviation maintenance standards.
+ Document and communicate sustainment engineering findings, creating technical reports, decision briefs, and sustainment roadmaps.
+ Support Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) process improvement initiatives, applying structured methodologies to optimize sustainment workflows.
+ Participate in hands-on field testing, system installations, upgrades, and quality control assessments.
Required Qualifications:
+ DAU Accreditation in Sustainment, Engineering, or Product Support OR must complete within 18 months of hiring.
+ Must have completed all DAU-required sustainment and logistics courses OR must complete them within 6 months of hiring.
+ Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science, Applied Statistics, or a related technical field.
+ Strong background in advanced mathematics, including probability theory, numerical analysis, optimization, and machine learning techniques.
+ Minimum 5 years of experience in military aircraft maintenance, sustainment engineering, or aviation product support.
+ Expertise in engineering modeling, failure analysis, and risk assessment using advanced statistical techniques.
+ Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, R, or other quantitative computing tools for statistical and engineering analysis.
+ Proficiency in technical writing – ability to record troubleshooting processes, sustainment findings, and solutions in a clear and structured manner.
+ Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain one. Must be able to gain a Top Secret clearance in the future.
+ Willingness and ability to travel extensively, with possible international assignments.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Master’s degree in engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, or Data Analytics.
+ Experience with NAVAIR, NAVSUP, and other DoD sustainment programs.
+ Expertise in statistical modeling techniques.
+ Hands-on experience using techniques for sustainment decision-making and predictive maintenance.
+ Familiarity with Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training environments.
+ Expertise in Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM+), Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), and Performance-Based Logistics (PBL).
+ Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity policies and system lifecycle management best practices.
+ Previous experience working with contractors and field engineers in sustainment and repair operations.
+ Experience with IEEE software engineering standards for sustainment and compliance.
+ Familiarity with CMMI frameworks and process improvement methodologies.
+ CMMI Level 3 or higher process improvement experience, ensuring structured sustainment optimization.
