    Job Summary

    The Center for High Performance Computing is looking for a student intern to work with a team of students and full-time employees on a 3D Visualization of a data center. The visualization is a first person experience of the data center. This particular position will focus mostly on the modeling and lighting aspects. The student will need to be familiar with modeling applications such as Blender, Maya, or other 3D modelers. The student will be working in a team environment with individual responsibilities. The student must be able to both work alone and work in a team. The student must be able to communicate well with others, both written and verbally. Part of the responsibilities will be to document work, document code, and document aspects of a datacenter.

    Responsibilities

    * Go through a series of tutorials and reading on tools such as Blender, Maya, Unreal Engine

    * Learn 3D modeling of different objects and how to apply textures in an efficient manner

    * Create 3D objects based on real infrastructure

    * Optimize lighting and object polygons for HTML delivery

    * Learn how to access databases from appropriate 3D engine

    * Produce video walk through and tutorials on equipment replacement

    * Produce equipment sensor models

    Minimum Qualifications

    Must be a University of Utah student

    * aggressive learning attitude and willingness to jump in and try things

    * ability to learn by reading/combing Google for answers

    * ability to run with a topic with full self motivation

    * some demonstrated experience with modeling applications

     

    Preferences

    Preferences: ( NOT REQUIRED )

    * basic working knowledge of a command line interface

    * experience working in a Linux environment

    * demonstrated technical writing skills for documentation, including diagramming

    * familiarity with programming languages, e.g. C, Python, Go, PERL , Java, C++, etc.

    * familiarity with scripting, i.e. Bash, zsh, powershell

    * familiarity with databases

    * familiarity with git version control system
