    Job Summary

    We are looking for someone to help us ensure that the library’s physical collections are successfully shared with researchers and students through daily collection management. The supervisor assists with the physical management of all activities including pull service and campus delivery, accurately shelving library materials, ensuring the stacks and study areas are neat and orderly, compiling statistics to represent collection activities, and relocating collections. The supervisor performs in-depth research for patrons to assist them in locating library material or locating non-specific information within collections. The supervisor is responsible for supervising the department in the manager’s absence including delegating work, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating student employees.The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing a loaded book truck, and the ability to drive a University vehicle with a valid driver’s license. The 6 years related work experience requirement can be met through a combination of educational equivalency (1 year of college-level education is equivalent to 2 years of experience); full or part time work in a library, cultural heritage institution, or similar public-facing organization; supervisory or student leadership positions; internships or volunteer assignments that include significant levels of responsibility that are transferable to the duties of this role.

     

    This position is required to work on campus full-time. Telecommuting will only be authorized for occasional/exceptional circumstances.

    Responsibilities

    Supervises the department in the absence of the Collection Services Manager including determining daily priorities for the team. Assists the manager with hiring and onboarding new employees and coaching them to success. Assesses lost requested items for replacement or alternative fulfillment. Conducts searches on claimed returned items. Manages the shelf reading program by prioritizing high-use areas and tracking overall collection progress.

     

    Pulls requested materials and delivers them to either a library pickup location or various offices on campus including the Faust Law Library, Eccles Health Sciences Library, and the McKay Music Library and provides general oversight of the request program. The faculty/campus delivery service includes retrieving on-site items, processing of items, delivery runs, and retrieval of library returns.

     

    Works daily in the collection to ensure they are maintained in good order and accessible and in accurate order. Shelves special libraries such as Fine Arts, Book Arts, and Maps, and the general collection. Assumes daily departmental responsibilities as needed, which include check-in, sweeping, and checking the shelves for shelving errors. Marks newly received materials.

     

    Checks in campus delivery returns and newly marked material to signal it is available for campus use. Edits and prepares item record information in Alma. Processes incoming requested items for hold shelf or delivery. Processes damaged material and assesses cataloging problems that come through check-in and routes them accordingly for resolution.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Six years related experience including one year supervisory experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; basic knowledge of library science techniques and principles in order to provide oversight to assigned area required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

    Preferences

     

    Previous experience using library management systems and research and organizational skills preferred. Valid Driver’s License and ability to operate a motorized vehicle. Basic proficiency in Excel preferred.
