    Job Summary

    Develops and conducts training programs, orientation, and continuing education for new and current employees specific to a department or function. Assesses training needs of staff and monitors the effectiveness of the training program.

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities

    + Develops and conducts training in the department and regulatory procedures, documentation requirements, and department-specific computer operations.

    + Provides orientation for all newly hired employees.

    + Creates or obtains training and orientation materials.

    + Identifies and assesses employee skill level and training needs.

    + Ensures that all child care licensing and University training requirements are met for each staff.

    + Evaluates the effectiveness of department education and training programs.

    + Maintains documentation of training, education, and new employee orientations

    + Tracks staff annual training.

    + Creates reports of quality management training, educational activities, and program effectiveness.

    + Develops and implements a monthly training schedule.

    + Audits employees’ daily work, as needed.

    + Other duties as assigned.

     

    Problem-solving

     

    The incumbents in the is position are expected to be familiar with the department’s policies and procedures and are required to have a working knowledge of University and department organizations and procedures in order to answer and assist staff and visitors.

     

    Comments

     

    Nearly continuously: office environment, occasional early childhood classroom environment, and standing during training sessions.

     

    Two years experience in a training or customer support capacity. Demonstrated computer, organization, human relations, and effective verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to manage time and work independently.

     

    Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Six years of progressively more responsible experience in a related area, including one year as a trainer or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); demonstrated computer, organization, human relation, and effective communication skills required. This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

    + Must be at least 18 years old

    + Must demonstrate effective communication with professionals, parents, and children

    + Must demonstrate an ability to work independently but show a willingness to take direction from the supervisor

    + Must be warm, energetic, and enjoy working with families, young children, and early childhood staff. Will be asked to conduct health and safety training at the interview.

    + Must pass a BCI and fingerprint background check.

    + Must be willing to obtain first aid training

    + Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office and management software.

    + Must meet physical characteristics needed for the performance of all job duties (with or without the use of aids):

    + Sufficient vision to read small printed material as well as long distances across playgrounds and classrooms for child supervision.

    + Sufficient hearing to hear a normal telephone conversation

    + Ability to speak in an understandable manner.

    + Tone with sufficient volume to be heard in an office and/or a busy classroom environment.

    + Lift small children (up to 50 lbs.)

    + Carry small children in arms for short distances.

    + Move about on hands and knees and sit on the floor with children.

    + Exhibits physical stamina necessary for daily interaction with young children (walking, kneeling, sitting on the floor, lifting up to 50 lbs., etc.) as well as several hours standing while training.

    + Ability to sit at the computer and perform repetitive motions.

    + Physical dexterity to use a pen or pencil in a legible format, operate a computer keyboard, and other devices.

     

    Preferences

     

    Child Development Associate ( CDA ), Associates, or Bachelor’s or equivalent in early childhood education preferred and more than the minimum two years of child care center experience.

     

    National Association for the Education of Young Children ( NAEYC ) and Department of Health Child Care Licensing rules and regulations experience preferred.
