North Country Orthopaedic Group – Authorizations Clerk - Full Time Day Shift– Req#8575

Pay Range: $16.45-$25.50*

To obtain authorization and appointments for diagnostic, surgical and therapy orders requested by the treating physician.

Qualifications:

Under the guidance and direction of the Billing Manager, the Referral Secretary is responsible for the following:

+ Receiving requests for authorizations from Medical Assistants.

+ Telephone, fax, and submit via Internet website, or e-mail primary care physicians, HMOs and/or carrier for appropriate authorization to execute orders.

+ Receive authorization from insurance carrier for treatment or prescriptions via mail, fax, e-mail, Internet or telephone.

+ Route authorizations that have been granted.

+ Update patient’s computer record with appropriate authorization information (in the referral screen of MEDENT).

+ If patient is having surgery, notify surgery scheduling office upon receipt of written authorization.

+ Daily pick up of surgery folder from the Surgery Scheduler’s office – checking the list for definite surgery dates and calling carrier to let them know the date of surgery. Additionally, responsible for editing surgery date in the referral screen of MEDENT.

+ Obtain authorization to schedule patients referred to physical therapy as well as monitor daily standing referrals for physical therapy and other visits.

+ Maintain a directory of contact fax numbers for all insurance carriers and local doctor’s offices by supplementing the MEDENT system rolodex feature.

+ Utilize MEDENT system triage feature to communicate with staff internally regarding patient related information including authorization approvals.

+ Utilize the MEDENT system “To Do” feature to ensure timely follow up and timely receipt of approvals and other information.

+ Obtain authorizations to treat emergency room patients seen by NCOG physicians and all ER follow up visits for patients referred to NCOG.

+ Obtain authorizations for NCOG ambulatory surgery center.

+ Respect the confidentiality of information learned through employment with the practice.

Requirements:

+ Experience as an authorization clerk preferred

+ Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes as well as carrier website familiarity preferred

*The listed base pay range is a good-faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
