The Assistant Controller working under the direction of the Controller is responsible for complex accounting areas of the Company in accordance with U.S. GAAP. This position will have contact with senior-level employees which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal. This position will work closely with the Company’s external and internal auditors to ensure compliance with accounting standards and Company policies.

Perform technical accounting functions including:

+ Support mergers and acquisitions activity including due diligence and preparation of purchase accounting entries

+ Account for stock options and other equity-based compensation

+ Account for the Company’s pension plans, including but not limited to ESOP & defined benefit pension plan

+ Account for equity method investments

+ Account for goodwill and intangible assets:

+ Annual goodwill impairment analysis including identification of reporting units

+ Assist with quarterly qualitative assessment of impairment for goodwill and intangible asset

+ Quarterly evaluation of remaining useful life of intangible asset

+ Account for the Company’s derivatives, including but not limited to interest rate swaps and mortgage-banking derivatives

+ Quarterly update to the evaluation of revenue recognition streams for proper accounting treatment under ASC 606

+ Assist with the annual budgeting for corporate-wide items

+ Fund capital contributions for tax-credit investments as necessary

+ Quarterly update to CECL scoping analysis and quarterly assessment of non-loan and non-security allowance

Perform due diligence on proposed mergers and acquisitions

Support month-end and year-end closing activities

+ Perform fluctuation analysis and other month-end/year-end activities as needed

Work with the Company’s external auditors

PROBLEM SOLVING & DECISION MAKING** **:

+ Ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP requires a great deal of decision making. This position is responsible for understanding these requirements. The Assistant Controller functions under the direction of the Controller and makes independent recommendations for changes to policies, systems and processes. Problem solving skills and experience must be drawn upon as unforeseen issues and events arise.

Education and Experience

+ Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting

+ CPA with at least 3 years of public accounting and/or corporate accounting experience

+ Excellent knowledge of U.S. GAAP is required

Skills/Knowledge

+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

+ Thorough understanding of U.S. GAAP

+ Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is essential

+ Strong communications, documentation and presentation skills
