Responsibilities
The Lead Specialist, Scientific Communications, is responsible for driving global execution of scientific communication initiatives that support the company’s clinical and commercial objectives. This role ensures the consistent, accurate, and impactful dissemination of complex clinical data across publications, congresses, and other scientific platforms. Acting as a cross-functional leader, the Lead Specialist partners with internal teams and external experts to develop high-quality content, maintain regulatory compliance, and align messaging globally. Additionally, the role provides strategic oversight on competitive intelligence, supports scientific training initiatives, and leads the tactical execution of publication and communication plans to reinforce scientific leadership and differentiate the company in a dynamic, competitive landscape.
Responsibilities:
+ Lead the development and execution of scientific communication strategies, ensuring alignment with global business goals, regulatory requirements, and emerging industry trends. Anticipate industry trends and competitor messaging, proactively refining scientific positioning to maintain market leadership.
+ Partner with research teams and external experts to develop high-quality scientific manuscripts, white papers, and peer-reviewed journal submissions. Oversee and refine the messaging of complex clinical data, ensuring global consistency and strategic impact across multiple platforms and external communications.
+ Responsible for collaborating with internal partners on conference strategy, scientific content development, and support for cross-functional teams.
+ Develop scientific content for global congresses and publications, ensuring it meets regulatory requirements and engages diverse audiences. Partnering with regional and international teams, adapting scientific messaging for different global markets.
+ Ensure all global scientific communications comply with regulatory guidelines, providing oversight on the review and approval of scientific materials.
+ Act as the lead for scientific communications within cross-functional teams (Clinical, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Commercial), ensuring alignment and integration across business functions. Provide internal scientific training sessions for global sales, marketing, and commercial teams, ensuring they can effectively communicate key clinical messages.
+ Track competitor publications, clinical trials, and scientific messaging to conduct gap analyses to determine how the company's clinical data compares to competitor results. Develop competitive intelligence reports to share with internal teams.
+ Manage, support, and execute development of global scientific communication tactics (e.g., scientific platforms, MSL materials [field use and internal training], microsite materials, etc.)
+ Oversee the tactical execution of the publication and podium plan, ensuring the development of high-quality, scientifically accurate, and timely publications.
Qualifications
Expected Areas of Competencies:
+ Advanced communication skills, able to create compelling narratives from complex data for diverse audiences (e.g., KOLs, regulatory bodies).
+ Expert in analyzing complex clinical data, identifying key insights, and using data-driven approaches to shape communication strategies.
+ Expert in managing large, complex projects, ensuring timely execution and high-quality results while managing cross-functional dependencies.
+ Comprehensive knowledge of medical device industry regulations, including global market requirements, ensuring compliance in all scientific communications.
+ Expert-level proficiency in scientific software tools, data visualization software, and document creation platforms for scientific communication.
+ Expertise in maintaining high scientific rigor, ensuring all messaging aligns with clinical data and is presented with accuracy and clarity.
+ Strong initiative in identifying strategic communication challenges and leading problem-solving efforts across teams.
+ Ability to contribute to and influence strategic decisions with a deep understanding of scientific communication needs.
+ Advanced interpersonal skills; able to manage relationships with KOLs, industry leaders, and cross-functional teams at the global level.
+ Ability to mentor and guide junior team members, providing leadership on communication strategies and projects and work independently.
+ Demonstrated ability to stay on top of trends and new information in the industry.
Requirements, Qualifications & Skills
+ 8+ years of experience in scientific communications, medical affairs, medical writing, or clinical marketing within medical device, pharmaceutical, healthcare industry, or related fields.
+ Bachelor’s in Life Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Sciences, or related field.
+ PhD or other recognized doctorate-level education with supporting applicable health science background is a strongly preferred to be considered for this role.
+ Combined education and experience will be considered.
+ Ability to travel domestically and internationally, estimated 25% travel
+ Experience in the medical device industry or cardiovascular/endovascular field a plus.
